Not when it's perceived as casual racism it isn't, they've made an example of him as he's a big name...if this is gonna go some way in acting as a deterrent to people making casually racist remarks then we should embrace it.

It's not all about Spurs you know...

The Silva 1 game ban and fine has set the bar.
I'm sure we will see something similar, but shouldn't be any more imo.

We really do like to find the most audacious and ridiculous ways to fuck ourselves over don't we?

It's kinda unbelievable really. But at the same time totally believeable with us

Seasons done anyway, may as well look forward to next season and take your mind of Spurs for 3 months - Jose pretty much said that the other day.

I don't see how it is whatsoever, we're still in the F.A cup with a home tie against Norwich, we're only 1-0 down in the champions league tie against a team who we've already shown we can outplay when we decide to and we're only 4 points off of 4th with Chelsea still having to go against City and Liverpool and that's without taking into account the potential for 5th to gain qualification for Champions League. Ridiculous to write the season off at this stage and it shouldn't only take 2 injuries for our squad to be deemed not up to the task.

Because IMO brexit is what caused the current race climate in this country.

Casual racism is ok. Our prime minister is at it too.

You're deluded if you think that casual racism was only deemed okay during the era of Brexit. Lucas and Walliams made their fortune off of it. If anything during this period where Brexit has been in our lives people are more aware than ever of the issue of casual racism.

It was such a stupid thing to do. At least he made a quick public apology. That could mean that the ban isn't quite as bad as it might have been otherwise.

I’m sorry that you feel that way but I’m sure racism was alive and well before the referendum came too Town. Dele messed up but I’m not sure he’s comments were driven by brexit.

I'm setting my expectations early.

I know it was. I’ve dealt with it all my life. But I’ve never seen it so in your face and tolerated. Outright racist social media everywhere. Just my opinion on course and not meaning to start a brexit debate.

As you were

social media is a scourge for public figures. Im always amazed when something like this happens. you can hire people to manage those accounts and he makes enough money to do it.

He didn’t actually post it on social media though did he? I thought he sent a Snapchat to a mate which then found its way onto social media.

I'm unclear on this. Some reported that he posted it to his followers.

If it's a private group, then I'd be appalled that the FA were involving itself in a private matter, but I'd like to find out for sure.

If it were indeed public, then I understand a 1 game ban would be consistent with a badly thought out standard.

Though I don't think Bernando Silva or Alli should be banned from playing football for being thoughtless or insensitive. A suspended sentence for a first offence would have been more appropriate. I don't think anybody with any sense would argue that either player holds hateful discriminatory attitudes.

As ever there's far too much conflation and virtue signalling going on in these matters.

The FA should spend less time trying to signal their own virtue, and more time on a substantive vision for tackling racism in football, starting with themselves and the atrocious way they deal with the Eni Aluko affair who had her England career ended after blowing the whistle on a genuine racist and bully in Head Coach Mark Samson.

It's poor leadership consistent with a weak organisation in my view.

That referee Hadley, not sure if that's his name, did a joke video to his mate that found its way to the FA and his career was destroyed. His video wasn't racist either. Dele deserves to get punished and we move on.

I never understand why they don’t just have a secret account for their friends set up under an alias. Would be much easier for them if they want one.
