The only difference between him and most of us is that no-one in the wider world cares what we say whereas players are under constant scrutiny. Social media is a minefield and within the mainstream media, there is a readiness to publish shock horror headlines to any of us who don't generally use social which then amplifies the situation. Players need to be careful.
Agree. But at the same time, it is media driven. Brainwashing the masses into outrage. Dele is a footballer, not a qualified politician or someone whose 'opinion' or humour really matters to anyone.

It's similar for me, of the Hollywood wankers who think their opinions actually mean anything. They don't. They are actors, professional pretenders.

It does show epic levels of naivety from Dele. But that's only because we live in a strange era of instant outrage and finger pointing. If most sat back and really considered that he is a football player, nothing more then it suddenly becomes far less interesting than say, if the home.sectetary said that 'all Chinese people have the lurgy'.

Good player is Dele......

The media outlets have bombarded us with a particular style of reporting followed by imagery in sequence the words Coronavirus then Chinese / Asian people in a region... Is the media racist?

Dele is still growing up he is an impressionable lad, imo he total misjudged saw the error of his way and quickly apologised.

I'm certainly not judging him on his morals - just his common sense. I do think that a lot of outrage is artificially created by the media and I also think that people's individual morals in football are often driven as much by partisanship as by a genuine outrage.

TheHoddleWaddl you're spot on, I work in the entertainment industry and one of my roommates does PR. I asked him about his clients instagrams (A list celebrities) and he said that everything they post on instagram gets screened through his boss prior to posting whether it be a story or a post just avoid this type of problem. I have also seen through my years of doing VFX that with a lot of the Actors will post photos of them while they get scanned for promotional purposes (as this doesn't give anything away script wise) that their assistants do all the posts/will be told what to write but will change anything that needs to be changed. I understand that Dele is young and is a professional footballer but c'mon man you should know better.

Edit: is it true that this video was a private snapchat sent to a select amount of people and they outed him? because if so that's super messed up

Most young men do stupid stuff. I speak from direct experience! Albeit it was a long time ago! Spur of the moment hijinks. There's no instant filter, I suppose.being high profile leaves you open to the easily.offended but then, that's life.now. but the adverse reactions never cease to amaze me. Hopefully he thinks twice. Although I'd prefer him to not apologise and say 'suck it up buttercup' (jokes innit)

There is a difference though you can't ignore. If you, me or anybody else here puts up a stupid video or makes a comment on social media we know that nobody really will see it or care. If you are Dele you know that everything you do online will be scrutinized by the media - he will even have had training on this. For him to put up dumb stuff to enable the media to latch onto it is absolutely fucking stupid and irresponsible in a way that we will never have to worry about.
I agree, and that’s what I’m annoyed with him for, not his comment, but his thoughtlessness about the consequences given his standing.

That's my only point, that he learns to use common sense. I'm 45 and didn't grow up in the world of social media - he is high profile and has grown up with it so he has to adapt to it. Whether or not the world today is good, bad or a bit of both is not the debate for me. It's just him learning what he can and can't say whilst understanding the repercussions.

As I was brought up on “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me!” I really struggle to understand all the furore nowadays. My how things have changed. People really go out of their way to find a reason to be offended. I’m genuinely worried how much shite will get thrown my way now. But need to say how oppressed I feel whilst writing this. 😢
Sorry if this offends 🥺
Dele, being his age and brought up with this, should have known better.
Think maybe I should leave this “Social media” alone.

He is a child and a child on the field. Dele Alli has so much talent but looks a lost soul. Until he grows up there wont be too many profound changes on or off the field

See I don't think it is really about being offended.

A man was making jokes about being scared of the flu and actively looked at an Asian man. For me this is wrong, he was just a man minding his own business and eating lunch. Not a wrong to such an extent that he should be vilified forever.

If you want to make jokes about dark subjects then fair enough. But maybe don't include strangers into your joke or film it.

People whining about people being offended, and "we can't say anything anymore" are as bad as those overreacting.

It was a poor taste, unfunny joke from an immature person, but talk about taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Players will need permission to breathe next.
I also think what a player does in his private life shouldn't be anything to do with the FA. We've gone all Big Brother lately. If anyone should punish a player, I think it should be the club as they are ones who could potentially be affected. He knows he was stupid, a rap on the knuckles should be enough surely?

What do you think about memes then?

He is 23. Plays football.

I'd have been banned 100 times over by now in his situation. So would most of you. Just a lad being a lad. Throw all the sjw outrages you can at him, he's just a normal bloke.

If this is how life is going, bring in the thought police and ban anyone that dares make a jest at anything remotely controversial from everything.

Bore off.
I disagree with you. I think people are confusing being a normal man with being an irritatingly offensive "bloke". It's not normal to have this sort of "banter"
