Very similar to Dembele in what he gives us in the middle of the park.
His development into this midfield role has a number of similarities to Dembele for sure. Deki is starting to move the ball up the pitch and in the final third he holds it up superbly.

Wasn't too sure on Kulusevski but that’s based on wing only play, he’s definitely looking much much better in this new role.

I know we're despairing of Werner, but Maddison and Udogie also wasted amazing chances setup by Kulu there. All round finishing is bollocks in this team.
It's an issue, absolutely. People wanting more numbers/goals/assists from Kulu need to watch what's happening after the pass to create the chance.

The goals will come, and we're still building, but we do need to improve our finishing.

Like an attacking version of Dembele - strong as an ox on the ball, not lightning quick over 5 yards but over mid to long range is deceptively quick. Great vision.

Deki is great in the middle third, very good with a little room for improvement in the final third (but might be more of a team thing than individual development) - defensive third is where he does struggle, understandably. I guess the question is do we just not worry about that, and if we are up against a really good team we consider a more defensively minded player? Or go balls out, toe to toe, and other body part based analogies?

either way, Deki is a great player!
Funny you should mention Dembele in your critique. Literally no player has everything you're asking for. I used to laugh when other posters used to criticize Mousa's lack of goals of some such. That just wasn't his job.

Like Kulu is allowed not to be Rodri or Makelele.

Football is a confidence game, and after putting in a performance like that Kulu will be brimming over with it - long may this continue

Indeed, if anything I would say he actually has more to his game. Dembele also was a winger at one point in his career, although granted Kulu has also said he best position is through the middle.
Yeah he can pass the ball.
For all his strength on the ball and body feignts/balance, Dembele's use of the ball was average at best.

Kulu has vision and the ability to pass either to feet or perfectly weighted into space (like for Werner's goal chance :cautious:

It's been clear for some time that his best role is central as he is a technically gifted player that never really had the pace to be a wide man.

He can be effective out there with players running off him either side but when isolated he's much more reliant on body swerves and selling the defender to beat them than sheer pace.

No disrespect to vdv but this is proof that Gary Neville only watches 1 team when he co commentates on a Man U match and has to decide a motm.

I can’t believe I actually said he should be sold in the summer if we needed to have more funds to spend.

This is what you’ve done to me Levy, bald prick.

I’ve been the same for the past year and a half. I’d eat my hat if I had one, he fits in perfectly in this role. Sublime.

My reasoning was based on the value he had in terms of finances and the performances at right wing. Through the middle he’s a completely different player, our best so far this season. Unreal.

Strength on the ball to hold off his marker. Good determination even towards the end of the game when he visibly tires. Madders is a better play-maker but if Kulu can add more goals to his game he will become a more important player for us.

I said it at the time but Kulu was obviously knackered at the end of last season. He was pretty much our only attacking player who didn't get injured so he ended up playing nearly every game. He's benefitted from the summer break.

Plus he became a father, those who are parents know that is knackering whether you play in the Premier League or play FIFA ………
