Jan is going to leave; Foyth wants out; Alderweireld reads the game well still, but he’s past his prime. As I see it, Sanchez will be the first defender on the teamsheet next season.

Personally I think he’s class. He is young, and he does make mistakes - and will probably make a few more. He has a lot to learn still but he’s in the right place. When he hits his prime, we’re definitely going to want him here (y)

I agree. It sounds like Mourinho does want another centreback though which I think is fair enough. Sanchez seems a determined individual. I think competition for places would help him.

I’m not so sure I can see Dier being moved back to CB plus Toby, Tanganga and a potential new signing I can see Jose look to move Sanchez on if there are any takers

On Sanchez flaws:
  1. His passing and technique are fine, not every centre back needs to be King/ Vertonghen/ Alderweireld.
  2. He gets bullied by big physical strikers. That’s why those strikers are there. King and Campbell also both struggled against these, with Davies and Heskey respectively causing them particular issues.
  3. Poor positional sense, I actually totally disagree with this. His starting positions are fine. Where he gets caught out is that he relies too much on his pace sometimes and gets done by a particularly quick forward.
I’m not saying he’s perfect but for 23 he’s very good. He needs to be first choice now to develop, but of centre backs not yet in their peak I can think of any in our league I’d particularly trade him for.

Davinson is much better than Dier, he's better this season than Toby and Tanganga didn't even play yet as center back in 4ATB. And those potential new center back linked by reliable sources are Ruben Dias/Koulibaly would both make the best pairing with him.

It will be Toby +1 imo
Our defence was a mess this season. Lloris, Sanchez and Aurier erratic displays create panic throughout the team imo

For me it's Sanchez + other. I personally see Sanchez as our number one defender.

I have been really disappointed with Toby as a defender. On the ball he'll occasionally hit that cross diagonal Michael Dawson ball that people rave on about but when you face him up one on one his poor, his recovery is poor his tackling not impressive at all... last season he was atrocious overall the season before that he was poor...i actually felt sorry for Winks at times when we had Vertoghen and Toby with Lloris at the back

This season he regressed no doubt, but before that he very good, honestly well ahead of anything Sanchez has shown so far. Knew when to attack the ball and be aggressive and use his body cleverly when facing up pacy players and he had decent recovery pace himself up until this season and obviously composed on the ball. Even this season I don’t think he’s been any worse than Sanchez who has been all over the place in some games.

You're disappointed with Toby, but not Sanchez?!

Not so sure myself. That would be a weird move. Dier is far from brilliant, Toby is in the final couple of years of his career, tangaga is a relative unknown at this stage. Selling our young promising CB with a good amount of first team experience doesn't really make much sense to me. Not saying Sanchez is the answer to all our problems but he's certainly shown enough to warrant a chance to step up so why sell him and create another hole that needs filling?

One is still young as center-back, other before that was world-class. Probably Ings goal this season was the most humiliating move for our defenders this season - it was Toby. This season we conceded 3 or more goals 5 times(Bayern x2 ,Brighton, Wolves,Leipzig and Wolves). - Toby played in 4 of them, Davinson in only one.

Was impressed by Dier’s albeit limited games at CB recently thought he looked steady and secure

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to have a pop at Dier. My point was more that Toby is getting on, and Jan is leaving, so selling Sanchez who is only in his early 20s seems like a bit of a daft move when our only other CBs are Dier who has been hit and miss and Tangaga who has only played a handful of games.

Love him, and want him to always be in the side if fit. He’s the future at CB for us more than anybody, time to get behind him and accept there will be mistakes but much more good than bad.

You are choosing to forget the mistakes made by Sanchez in almost every match he plays. That is not to say I think we should offload him. As you say, he is young, at times looks very good and I hope he realises his potential. We paid a lot of money for him but are yet to see a reasonable return based on that fee.

Playing Toby over Sanchez when we were conceding a lot of goals tell you something !

This season according to data Toby made more mistakes leading to shot than Davinson.
