Calm down.

He's by no means slow, obviously, but he's not as quick as I thought he'd be when we signed him. Perhaps as he improves his positional sense he won't need to chase players down on the turn as much. A bigger issue is his struggles against particularly physical strikers.

I know he's young and can improve, and I really hope he does, but I have had niggling doubts about him for quite a while.
:cautious:Oh I can see where your moniker comes from now.:)..…..

I think Sanchez is quality. He could get into every single team in the EPL imo. People talking about him regressing should look how we're defending on a whole, our full backs have been absolutely atrocious and we don't have a specialised DM.

Absolutely spot on. We let in shit loads of goals and the blame goes to Sanchez who has been relegated to number 3 for no reason after a very good first season.

Defending individually might be great in some people's eyes lavishing praise on Toby, but it's amazing how he gets back in and now we can't defend for shit?

I don't think it's his fault either. The problem is this season we can't defend for some reason

What you've said doesn't make much sense to me. Sanchez is always chasing back because of the way Pochettinho has us with a high defensive line also he'll be casing back because our wingbacks are mainly out of position.

I don’t think it’s because of the high line. You don’t see Toby or Jan chasing back on the turn half as much, nor other top level defenders. But as I said, I believe he’ll improve this over time as he is still very young, as positional sense is something that does natural get better over time.

Anyway, I feel like I have to clarify something: I actually like Sanchez. Yes I have doubts about aspects of his game, but he’s still comfortably better than most CBs at his age. His development hasn’t moved on as much this year, but it’s been a weird season for most. I just hope he can continue to improve.

It might actually be best all round when Toby leaves, it gives Sanchez the confidence that he is 1st choice and he will be playing week win week out, and it also takes away the temptation for Poch to change system at the drop of a hat giving our defence stability and familiarity

Not refuting Toby’s obvious quality, but I think we will see Davinson improve once Toby has moved on. Some decent fullbacks and a proper DM will probably help as well

We make a LOT of individual errors. Would love to see how many of our goals conceded are due to a clanger instead of being outplayed. Feels like a massive proportion.

Fantastic today, his pace and strength offers us so much

Did you miss the part where he was about 3 yards off Antonio for the goal?

I saw him make one good tackle and he only had to make that because Antonio blazed passed him after he missed the ball.

Not to mention Diop leaving him for dead in the centre circle as well.

This guy is meant to be the future?

Not for me.

The goal wasn’t his fault, it was Toby man and Sanchez tried to cover up but it was too late. And I agree that it was poor from him against Diop but other than that he played really well, his pace and strength covered pretty much everything up

Toby missed the header but if Sanchez was as good as people say he is he would have been closer to Antonio. It was poor defending.
Agree to disagree on his game. I thought he was terrible again.

With the ball at his feet he's dreadful, passing is as bad as I've seen for a CB under Poch. Like a dog in headlights.

I don't rate him and I don't think I ever will.

Just think a lot of the time he's having to clean up his own mess. He has good attributes, but seems a bit too all over the place at times. I don't mind having him fill in when needed, but not sure we'd getting away with having him as a first choice CB all season, if Alderweireld was to go for instance.

This is the reason he had to make that good tackle on Antonio. He missed the tackle

His pace gets him out of trouble.
