Danny Rose leaving will hurt.

He’s not the same player he was a couple seasons ago but really starting to feel like an end of an era for a Spurs squad I have absolutely loved watching.

Walker, Dembele already gone. Toby, Rose and Tripper next. Possibly Eriksen too and Vertonghen is getting older...

This team should have won the league that year!

edit: Have noticed it's Davies in this picture and not Rose, but you get the idea

I think people seem to not be considering the fact that Rose wants to leave. Not that we're ostracising him, or pushing him out. Maybe he's had a good chat with Poch, and wants to go. Therefore, he's staying home while the others travel because Poch is actually doing him a favour and doesn't want to stand in his way?

Bingo. He wants his last big pay day and we're not offering it to him.

How are we doing for foreign player slots, Vorm and Llorente going and Ndombele joining is a net of 1, leaving only 1 spot left. If we do get replacements for Rose and Trippier they may have to be homegrown if we intend to buy Lo Celso

I hope any "agreement" Poch and Rose have has a deadline of at least a couple of weeks before the season starts. Fuck going in to the final week of pre-season without knowing who our first choice full-backs will be.

Difne scares me, he’s tried it at the big time twice and hasn’t been deemed good enough.
Bit harsh. He had a solid first season in the PL last season, not sure why you'd base your feelings on him off two spells in France and Spain.

Either way we won't get him. He seems happy at Everton.

Only way Everton lets Digne go is a big fee plus Rose and if Digne kicks up a fuss to come to us.

I'd be absolutely gutted about this, one of my favourite players. His do or die mentality on the pitch is irreplaceable and he always gives 100%. Would only accept Chilwell as a Rose replacement, the only realistic signing I believe will improve us at LB coming from England.

In all seriousness, we might suddenly be looking very short defensively

We're going from:

Trippier, Alder, Vert, Rose
Aurier, Foyth, Sanchez, Davies

To

Foyth, Sanchez, Vert, Davies
Aurier, KWP.

Now we might potentially add Saliba and Sessegnon, good prospects but fuck me we are losing a lot of experience in Alderweireld and Rose, I think realistically Dier has to be moving to CB.

Foyth Sanchez Vert Davies
Aurier, Saliba, Dier, Sessegnon

Lots of potential but we are going to be weak in the backline next season it seems so unless there's some names not in the media yet we are taking a gamble, fingers crossed we can get those 2 though.
Hopefully dier moving to CB as he can be world class there, he has everything to be too top drawer there hopefully he’s realised his experiment in CDM is over.

See this is why I feel like I don’t even use anywhere near a normal level of my brain capacity, what wizard would even check this

Pure fluke. I saw rebrab come up and knowing we have had a big lack of ITK, searched his name to see if he had left any other messages, and there in the search the white text was not hidden!

Would be excellent business if possible, we need to do this more where we can like man.u used to do to us with Carrick berba etc.

Makes so much sense to target teams 6-10th best players, generally we can offfer them better wages, champions league football, one of the best managers and stadiums in the world and a club who were recently in the CL final looking to win big big things in the next 5 years OR they can stay at e.g. Everton and West Ham and wolves etc and be part of a ‘project’

Jota is another one id be looking at and also possibly Doherty.

I will be sad just as others when/if Rose goes as he's been with us for almost his entire career and he's been a top player for us.

However, I do see why he will be the one to leave.

We've been linked to many players this summer and the impression is that we will sign up to 5 or 6, meaning that the spending could be 150m and over. As Sessegnon appears to be one of Poch's primary targets, someone has to make way. It could have been Davies but he is unlikely to bring in a high fee and seen as he is a dependable player, (solid but not spectacular) also the younger of the two, it makes sense to cash in on Rose whilst we can still get a fee for him, to allow us to bring in a player with the future in mind.

We will certainly lose a very solid, committed and tenacious full back who has been excellent (especially 15-17) however we have to take into account whether or not we will see a fully fit Danny Rose for an entire season. Furthermore, I think when you look at the modern FBs you need much better output from them in the offence - look at Liverpool's for example - and Rose is guilty of lacking in these areas a lot of the time. Yes he is pretty good at dribbling in tight situations but his crossing varies from average to poor at the best of times. We need fullbacks who can do much more damage in these situations.

On to Ryan Sessegnon, this is a player with considerably better output than Rose in the attacking sense and whilst we may not get the maturity defensively and discipline wise, I think we'll see better crosses and more goals from this position. Sessegnon has that natural intelligence and instinct to pop up in the right areas and either assist or score, something that Rose was not entirely great at.

Considering all this, I think that the upside over the long-term is massive. Davies can start as the no.1 with Sess gradually being given the opportunity to make the position his own. If we have Rose, Davies and Sessegnon this will likely prevent Sess from getting critical game time, whilst it allows us to invest more strategically.

There's no way this club spend 150m+ on all it's targets without some players making way.
