Rose at his peak was unplayable. Unfortunately that peak only lasted for about 9 months. Prior to that he was inconsistent, error-prone, defensively suspect, and didn't offer much in the way of going forward, and sadly he seems to have reverted to type. I'd love to keep him and for him to return to the beast he was in 2016 because those types of wingbacks are rare and invaluable, but I suppose if he wants out it's best for everyone involved. That said, to sell him without a proper replacement - which is what it looks like we'll be doing - is an utter joke and would really harm our season. Better have him on the bench than fecking loaned out to Shalke or whomever for pennies ffs.

This was one of the few areas in the summer window we really could have improved in. When we play 3 CBs we need more of an attacking threat on the left than Davies provides. Specifically pace. Rose used to provide that, but it appears that he is not right and will not feature much with both the club and player looking to move on. Davies is a much underrated player, particularly in a back 4, and can also play as a LCB should the need ever arise, but we should have bought an aggressive wide LWB to give us more attacking options.

He was awful first half, absolutely annoying cos he played like he didnt know how to play.

Second half he was excellent.

He just needs some time to get back used to the speed of the game. He still has that class. Loved when he just threw down Pogba that one time on the sideline in the second half.

Danny Rose reveals Tottenham future is still uncertain but thanks Mauricio Pochettino for show of faith

https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...mauricio-pochettino-for-show-of-a3922541.html

Rose said: “I’m good. I’m not listening to the speculation about my future. If I’m here past Friday, which I’m expecting to be, it will be great. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve at the end of the season.
“Me and the manager have had a conversation [about my future] over the phone, as well as two one-hour meetings over the last couple of weeks. We’re both aware of the situation.”

“On Sunday, I was nervous to see if I was going to be in the squad [for United] and I really didn’t see myself playing,” Rose told Standard Sport.

“I was so shocked in the meeting before we arrived [at Old Trafford]. I thought there was going to be a change but never did I think that it was going to be me coming in. I’m over the moon that I was able to be part of it.
“It was nothing to do with my fitness. I just felt that we won last week, had a very good performance.

“I just thought the manager would have stuck with the back line that played the last few games. It was a surprise and I’d like to think it’s one that’s paid off. Now we forget about Monday and me, Ben [Davies] and Kyle Walker-Peters go again and try to push each other to play on Sunday.

“Monday night was massive for me, even though there is speculation. [Pochettino] still trusts and believes in me to put me into such a massive game, where he didn’t need to change anything. For me, over the last four or five years we’ve worked together, Monday is probably the biggest thing he has done for me.

“I have to thank him because it would have been easy for him not to play me given the speculation. If I’m called upon, I’m going to give everything, like I did on Monday. If I play again, I hope to have a better first half than I had.”

_

He's not at his best, performance wise, for a variety of reasons BUT I am delighted that he appears to be happy to stay, and in good spirits. Nothing would please me more than to see him in the form of a few years back.

Bit scared KWP being mentioned as fighting for left back though, would much prefer he is considered for right back only (unless emergency).

Otherwise a nice article to read, would be nice if we could get Rose and Alderweireld a little more secure though as their situations still a little unsteady, but that’s the world of football I guess. Even Chelsea have the same with players like Hazard constantly being linked away.

If Rose is staying I really hope KWP gets a loan otherwise it will be another waste of a season. Would be great for him to get a good championship loan

KWP is mentioned by Davies, Rose, Trips and Aurier whenever they talk about competition. He's clearly backup for both positions.

He's too good for the championship in my opinion. We should have tried and sorted him out a PL loan before window ended. At 21 he really needs to be testing himself at higher level, I'm not sure a good championship loan is enough right now as the step up into Prem is huge.

Think staying here this season would be really poor for his development, not sure if he's got the bollocks to do it but a year loan to a bottom half la Liga club would be perfect for him.

He should play every cup game at RB IMO and sprinkle in lower level champions league clubs if we get one, relegation candidates, etc.

I completely agree. I think the plan had been to sell Rose and him to be back up LB. obviously that hasn’t materialised so a loan to the Championship is better than staying.

Shame we couldn't have loaned Serge and used KWP to rotate with Trips.
I really rate KWP highly, I think he has suffered from the pressure to replace Walker when in hindsight we really didn't need to.
Just hope he gets enough games somehow or we could loose him. As much as he wants to make it here he must know he needs to be playing.

Poch's man management wins once again.

Yeah, great decision by Poch even though it's obvious Rose is seriously lacking match fitness and sharpness. That win will do a world of good for him both in match fitness and confidence going forward.

I think that will be the case next season. I think Serge will get the "how you going" games but the big games will be Tripps. Serge loaned or sold next season with KWP taking over.
