The England international returned to Spurs with a year left on his contract and The Athletic understands he was told then that he would not be part of the first-team squad given Mourinho has three options at left-back.

Then

Despite this, he is thought to have known nothing about losing the No 3 shirt until receiving a phone call from somebody to say they had seen the news on television.

So not sure if it's a bit OTT to suggest he didn't know - seem like it was heavily implied in the former tbf.

BREAKING: Player doesn't get squad number for squad he is not part of.

Undermines the club by *checks The Sun* - no further comment needed.

But the point is that after that he knuckled down and fought hard for the club. I've been on this forum since Danny Rose first joined the club and every couple of years there's been a 'Rose out' agenda come to the fore either because people haven't liked what he's said to the media (even when it's been totally innocuous) or because he's gone through a rough patch of form. And each time until this one he's bounced back, found his form and made himself first choice again. You can point to the Sun article but I can point to a huge number of fantastic performances, all of which undermine the point that he doesn't care about the club or that he's somehow bad news. It's easy to criticise Rose but it's a lazy narrative and doesn't stand up to scrutiny. It's the same fans who criticise him for a lack of loyalty that also want any player whose form has dropped out - it's total cognitive dissonance.

I've got to say, Danny Rose, for me was one of my favourite players to watch for Spurs in peak Poch. He played with such a controlled aggression. He respected nobody and made one of the best tackles I've ever seen in a game (was against arsenal I think)
I wasn't a fan of his new found love of media attention, but he still always gave 100% when he pulled on the shirt.

They weren’t perfect players and made mistakes but the pace, power, aggression, and fearlessness of in form Rose and Walker is what the team has been missing for three years now.

I’m sorry Danny but no one good wants you. It’s time to accept that a mid table Serie A club is the best you can do. Do you really want to train with the u-23s all season? It’s time to move on.

Erm no. Absolutely not.

Expression is about converting an idea into conduct and vocalisation (i.e. communicating it). Nothing about how he said it was appropriate and would have been the nail in the coffin.

He basically went straight up to Mourinho, after obviously winding himself up, and said "Whats the problem? You know exactly what I mean". Pretty much killed any hope from the start with passive aggressive nonsense. That makes it a conversation without compromise from the beginning. What made it worse was the way he stomped off like a toddler at the end - didn't say "thanks", just "I'll speak to Daniel then".

Expressing himself perfectly appropriately would have been:

"Hi Jose, do you have a minute" ...
"I've not played much recently and I know I could have done a lot better in the chance I had against Liverpool. I've noticed that we don't seem to be performing well as a defence, so I can see there's still an opportunity for other chances - what can I do to improve or to be top of the list?"
"Thanks for your time. I really think I have plenty left to give so I hope I can change your mind"

It's classic victim complex to completely ignore the aggression and impact you have on others around you, and only concentrate on how they are reacting to you.
Am i the only one that thinks that was a bit staged.

Had two or three really good seasons for us. Sadly we missed our chance to really cash in on him the summer Walker left. I think that was largely due to him being injured. But it is funny to think that just two years about we would have got 40M from Chelsea or City.

Now he's off to 'lil ol Genoa for 5m. Crazy.

I hope it is a move that makes him happy. Sad that he wasn't enjoying himself over the last year or more. But I can only assume that if he's sulking around all the time, that can't be great for team morale/spirit.

Good move for all, I'd say.

If we had cashed in on him same summer Walker left there would have been a massive melt-down lol.

The last year has been a bad one for him and tbh he's never done himself any favours with the fans with his various talkative moments.

Things may have soured recently for him, but for me I'll choose to remember that for a long time he was a great servant of the club - when he was at his best a few years back, he was one of the best LBs in the league. And I'll never forget the goal he scored on his debut against Arsenal. I still remember the commentator saying, "I don't care if he plays 100 years, he'll never score a goal as good as that." Too true.
