I think he's had his head turned personally, and lost a bit of interest in what we are doing.

We've forever been a team that holds on to these players for too long and for me we need to sell at a premium if we can.
If that's true then I agree, we need players that are 100% committed.

I do think that finding a replacement ball playing CB that fits this system may be a struggle to find however.

We seem to be really lacking in leadership/natural captains. I love Sonny but I’m a bit tired of seeing his interviews, 1) we’re sorry 2) need to do better 3) we’ll keep working hard.
someone needs to put a shuttle sized rocket up them both on and off the pitch
I gave up watching such interviews a long time ago. You just get the same old tripe. What do we expect.
TV companies want more and more access. Who is interested in what a player has to say after he’s been subbed.

It’s no surprise that he’s had his head turned. He’s a top tier player, and we won’t be able to able to have successive non-competitive seasons and keep these kind of players interested and happy. We’ve really fucked it.

This is it. It's an endless cycle.

Maybe Gray and Bergvall become world class but they won't have the players around them and they will become disillusioned.

Who do we think will buy him?
Madrid don't buy many players his age these days and imo he isn't good enough for them
Barca broke
Bayern arguably have better players there but will they spend what spurs want?
Can't see any club in premier League buying him
PSG? Doubt they would go after him
Italian clubs don't have the cash
Atletico Madrid - they unexpectedly had a big outlay this summer, hard to see them having the cash for him

Ultimately I don't see any club willing to spend 60m+ for him so reckon we are stuck with him

I think his ball playing will be the biggest miss if he goes. I can't get past the feeling that aggression in stepping out and pace to recover are the most important attributes any CB can have in Ange's system though, so whilst I agree he'd be a big miss in some respects I do think we could make up for other area's of weakness by buying a different type of CB. Vuskovic is exactly that player type just probably way too soon for him. Although with all the reports I do think he'll make his mark sooner rather than later.

I don't think it's just that. The Spanish giants are the big draw for South Americans and always have been, if one of them come calling they'll 100% want out regardless, and Madrid have been sniffing for ages.

I'd be surprised if he's not at Madrid this time next year.

He is a player where you end up realising what you're missing when he's not there. I do think there is more of a fluidity about us when he's present. That being said from a defensive and organisational aspect I think he can often be poor. I'm not actually concerned with losing him specifically, but more so concerned with being able to identify someone who has a fair chance of being an improvement.

One thing we're not good at doing at all is losing a player and replacing them with the equivalent or better level of ability.

Madrid would.
You could well be right mate but the last player they signed permanently above 24 that wasn't a free was Hazard in 2019/20 season. Given how poor he has been this season and if his head is turned I hope they do bid for him but IMO he doesn't appear to fit into their strategy but maybe with their current CB's aging and missing out on Yoro they will change their strategy for him

He'll be in his prime, like most big Clubs if they decide they need him theyll get him.

I hate this shit though. There's plenty of players that have their heads turned and then put in even better performances to earn their move and leave on a high etc. IF he is phoning it in because someone else has shown interest, that says a lot about his character. 😣

Never thought Id say this and havent once yet, but Id be tempted to sell if we got a huge offer.

He's really talented but whats the point if you dont give youre all every week.

I suspect he's a big part of our complacency as a team, and he's a vice captain ffs.

Terrible, terrible move that was and one Ange has got very wrong imo.

Go and get the young lad Branthwaite or Guehi, who will give their all every week. Two good English CBs.
The great thing about Guehi is that he is able to play left or right centre back so could partner van de Ven or Dragusin without either of them having to play on their less preferred side. I think he is also quicker than Romero which is important in Ange's system.

I think its pretty clear he doesn't have his heart in it anymore. Maybe thats because of Madrid interest or maybe thats because he's lost faith in Ange and the club, maybe its a bit of both. But if that is the case we need to sell him and I am a big fan of his. My only concern is if it ends up being another long winded transfer negotiation that ends up taking all window and inevitably leaves us scrambling last minute.

On the plus side there are a lot of very attractive RCB out there at the moment if we wanted to replace him. It's LCB that are far more tricky.

I was at the game on Sunday and as soon as the goal went in you could see heads drop. Not one of the out-field players (Vicario the only one trying to gee-up team-mates) or official ‘vice-captains’ had a thing to say to their team-mates so i think the search for a true leader is one of if not the biggest challenge facing Ange. Id take the VC titles away from Cuti and Madders if they dont start getting into their team-mates when the chips are down and think about taking the captaincy away from Sonny too as i dont think they players fear him in any way. Too many “nice guys” as Jose put it.

2 yrs left on his contract in the summer. Sign another one or go. Sadly he won’t be missed that, much judging by this season. Certainly not the nutcase he was

He's a very very good player, but I don't think he's irreplaceable like when we lost Bale or Kane. I think we'd have to look at a slightly different profile to balance out whet we were losing but I don't think it would be as difficult as some think, and I'd imagine we'd also have some change to spend elsewhere if we played it right.

I'd look at Van Hecke as his replacement.

A dutch defence!
