I'm wondering if he plays this weekend. He's playing late Wednesday night in South America and we have the 12:30 kick off on Saturday.

That's gonna be a slog for him.
I think the game is 1am tonight (tomorrow morning), so he'll have a few days to recover. I'd be happy to see VDV and Dragusin against West Ham though if I'm honest, if nothing else it'll show faith in Dragusin after his recent red card.

With all those air miles, he’s had way more sleep than the rest! He should be bang on it! Unless of course, he has been bang on it, and not slept through any of those flights. Which is more style of flying.

I love this place. We have a player who is simultaneously not good enough for the Mighty Tottenham whilst also expecting RM to cough up £80M for him!
Why not quote me next time?

And he's plenty good enough for us. He simply isn't going to sign a new contract IMO.

Yeah, the game was Tuesday evening tee in Buenos Aires and he had nothing to do all game apart from celebrate the 6 goals by slapping people. He'll have been straight onto his Spurs booked private jet (y) (y) (y) to sleep the journey back to London in time for plenty of downtime and then training Thursday morning.

Some people are lucky, the lag doesn't hit too hard. Flying east long haul does tend to fck many though, me very much included.

He'll play if fit, but will need to play very well because they have pace against our high line and height at set pieces especially if Soucek is on.

Can someone explain why opposition teams stand off Romero when he has the ball at his feet and his moving forward ? Are they frightened of him ? Or perhaps they don't think much of his passing ? He seems a very good passer of the ball to me so why not challenge him when he has the ball ?

I suspect that because of his composure they're more likely to trigger their press when other players of ours receive the ball. Not much point trying to close Romero down when you know you're almost never going to win it off of him.

That’s what he wants them to do. The whole reason he puts his studs on the ball is to draw the oppo press and then pop to our free man behind their midfield

Teams don't want to press us on the half-way line, so they just stand off. The area of most danger for us is losing the ball 10 yards outside the oppositions box - that's where the counter attacks start. So they funnel our play into those inside-forward areas and try to win it there. Letting Romero have the ball means their forwards drop back and condense the midfield to try to make it 6v5 in their favour.

going back all the way to poch and klopp early days in epl, when "geggenpressing" was the rage, both coaches explained that pressing the opponents is both science and art.

science is to know when and who and how to do so - when there's a bad touch, no passing options, wrong body positioning etc etc

there is really no point pressing Romero when he has the ball and is facing forward because, he always has at least 2 or 3 options in GK, his fellow CB, and one more.

If the "wrong" player presses him, and the whole opposition players move out of shape or leave any one of our midfielders in space, Romero also has the ability to find his team mate.

because of both reasons, dont bother.

there are also times when opponents do press him, when the "trigger factors" are available.

It's horses for courses for a lot of players and ourselves due to what is asked of them. I think he's a great player and possibly a world class defender, I'm still not convinced he's the right CB for our system, and how we play though like I am with VDV.

VDV will get most of the grief for the goal and not just getting rid of the ball, but I didn't think he was helped by the awful slow loopy ball over from Romero that just enabled Palace to really press. And it just epitomised his and many others performances today, looking lethargic and not ready or prepared to compete.
