That clip was one of the occasions yesterday where that exact scenario played out. To be fair to Romero it seems like the whole defence just ignore the opposition and allow them free runs at us. Makes me think it’s a tactical thing. I can’t fathom how defenders at this level would keep allowing that to happen unless they were told to do that.
Its 100% not a tactical instruction that you stand there doing nothing and just ball watch. Unfortunately it is the weak mentality of our players who buckle too often when under pressure. Just look at our away record which is a real sign of a teams mental fortitude. After Christmas we won 2 away games with 1 of them against 10 man villa and then last day of season against relegated sheff utd. That's a horrendous record. Our players are so mentally fragile

I'm hoping Real Madrid are stupid enough to offer us the kind of money Barca splashed out for Coutinho. I have confidence that we would make better use of it than we did of the Bale money, and I don't think we'd miss Romero, in fact I think he's currently way more of a liability than an asset.

We won't get more than we got for Kane and that sale didn't result in top signings. We just sold a world class player and brought in more potential.

Romero’s body language was terrible, just shrugged his shoulders when the goals went in, instead of trying to drive the players to get a grip and put in an effort. Also was back to walking football again, even when we were running out of time to get something from the game.

Maybe he doesn't have the appetite for a rebuild with young players and expected a bit of quality to come in, possibly lost a bit of hope he's going to win a club trophy.

But if he keeps playing like this are Real going to go for him? Maybe they'd prefer Saliba etc

Yeah Romero was bad, and has been a few times this season. I also find myself questioning him as vice captain, the pre-kick off huddle I’m sure it was Maddison doing the huddle talk. Maybe it’s a language thing, maybe he’s not a confident speaker? And if those two bits are true, then why is he wearing the armband. We need leaders, and we need him to take this role with responsibility, not just by encouraging the others and talking to them, but his personal performances too.

I wouldn't be shocked if he's mentally checked out. He came on board around the same time as the Nuno debacle and the false dawn that was Conte. Then we sold our best player, and now it feels like we’re starting from scratch once more, embarking on a cycle that may or may not come together by the time Romero turns 30.

He might feel like he’s given it a few years and it hasn't worked out and now it's time to move on. While that’s no excuse for not giving it his all, it could explain his mindset.

Not the type of player we want at the club in that case, nor should he be wearing the armband in Son's absence.

Yeah, I mean obviously this is pure speculation on my part, and I could be completely off base. However, he wouldn’t be the first or the last player to seem mentally checked out while focused on his next move.

And experienced Kane come to the same conclusion.

Go on then. Explain this shit show underneath, specifically Romeros part. Forget anyone else's part.
I wonder if Porro is communicating with Romero? Porro can see the where Welbeck is. Not saying it is Porro's fault BTW, just an observation / thought.

Maybe, but Romero has eyes and his job is to be aware of runners. I think Romero is a great player but that was poor from him. There's no other way to cut it.

Yeah, and Kane tried to leave a couple of years earlier too, when he was about 28.

Realistically we still look years away from seriously challenging for the title. Kane spent his mid to late twenties- his peak years- in a really mediocre Spurs team. Moving to Madrid probably feels like a no-brainer to Romero, assuming Madrid are interested.

This is basic defending. Stay goal side of your man, don't let him out of your sight, be first to the ball. I really do hope Ange drives this home to him and the rest of the team. These type of errors at this level are not acceptable, it has to stop.
