I do think this thing about the flights is a pretty perfect encapsulation of the club's priorities. Making him arrange his own commercial flight home rather than paying to fly him privately and get him back earlier so he can have more rest before a massive game. These details are what set us apart from other big clubs where sporting success is an absolute priority. For us, a lucrative friendly in on the other side of the world a couple of days after the season ends is of more importance than the small details that make the difference between winning and losing.
I agree, people seem to be having a pop that a grown man should be able to arrange his own flight which is true in isolation but as a prized asset from a big sporting institution we should be handling all of that stuff for him leaving the players to concentrate on the prep for the game.

it doesn't really reflect greatly on Romero complaining about it after he was at fault for the goal but it certainly makes the club look cheap which we know from experience under this ownership it absolutely is cheap regarding the sporting element of it.

Couldn't agree more. A serious club gets their best players back quickly. We will never be that under Levy. He is the absolute biggest problem at this club and I will celebrate the day is his no longer associated with us like we have just won the champions league. Just hope I live long enough to see it and I am only 44 but I can never see that serpent releasing control of this club.

Romero should have been back as soon as possible, all players should have been. Finances first, Stadium second, training ground third, concerts fourth, NFL fifth, F1 sixth.....maybe then Men's football team is Levy priorities.

I'm 51yo, what chance do I have of living long enough to see Levy out of the club 😰

The club literally have people that look after the logistics of players, and saying that so should his agent. I'm sure when he says he had to do it himself it was nothing of the sort.

I said it in the Summer I like him as a player but I do think he's overhyped somewhat. I think he's excellent at some things but fairly mediocre at others. Personally speaking if we can sell at a premium while his stock is still way high due to his success with Argentina, I would.

Been absolute trash lately, and Dragusin should be in the team, there is no excuse to the horrendous defending against Vardy and this against Gabriel.

Also second goal to Newcastle, it lookslike he is on a diferent planet tacticaly. He is good defending at 30 yards being tough in the oponents back, but when it comes to reading the game is turns of way to much

100% agree, I don't really like his vibe/attitude, he seems like a loose cannon and he switches off defensively too often.

You'd like to think we did but i wouldn't be surprised at all if players had to book their own flights (well their management team)

I have been a staunch backer of Romero but there is definitely something in his mental make up that will hold him back from being a truly top centre half, those lapses in concentration are way too common and i do agree that if a big offer came in we might be wise to take it.

on his day he is top tier but it all falls down if you are imperious for 85 minutes and then a brain fart costs you the points.

Verts and Toby were elite, Romero will never be on their level.

Just wondering how we feel about this post now? And honestly I’d probably take a large offer for him now. He’s not reliable enough. And it’s not about the system, he switches off at important moments.

I’ve been a huge fan of Romero but he’s been terrible this season and he needs to be dropped.

Some of his defending has been unacceptable and Dragusin should come in for a run of games.

I'm going to hold him largely accountable for the loss today.

Not just his defending of Gabriel, but the counter that lead to the corner. Where is Romero? He's pretending to be a striker again. The corner comes in, it's cleared, we recycle it. In that time Micky has gotten back but Romero has decided to stay up. When the ball is hoofed clear Micky is covering a huge space all by himself and Havertz gets the run on him and we are chasing back 3v3.

He does this all the time, just says "fuck it" and stays up field thinking he'll make a difference. Then the ball breaks against us and we are outnumbered at the wrong end of the pitch.

I think most of us would agree he’s not elite but he’s still probably the best of a poor group of defenders that we currently have

Ledley & Jan at there best for long periods wouldn’t make a single mistake, for ages & ages

I guess I've never thought about it but shouldn't travel arrangements to and from a player's league club be taken care of by the national team?
It is the national teams responsibility - but some clubs may provide a better solution.

The whole thing is just an excuse though.

The difference between a private plane and first class isn’t going to be much, apart from a dent to his ego.

It looks like it’s been done before due to timing of games / kick offs, and now he expects it. The fact it made the news previously suggests this isn’t the normal way for players to travel.

I remember Vertonghen being all over the place when we stood high and there was no protection from midfield, with terrible attitude as well.
How would Gabriel do in our defense? Would probably look like a complete clown running around chasing space.
Romero's consistency will come when he drops us for Real Madrid.

After Vertonghen’s early wobbles and suspect attitude he became an absolutely fantastic, Rolls Royce, of a defender

I think Romero is 80/20 very good but will always have a few lapses or brain farts

What I don’t get is that there were quite a few of them coming back to Europe so why don’t the clubs put them all on a private flight back as opposed to individual player flights?

It's still a ridiculous post.
2 Copa America and a World Cup. Being easily the best CB at each tournament.
re the comment about switching off at important moments. What's more important in football that a WC final?

We have top defenders in the 4 positions, but we defend like shit. We have no defensive tactics other than high press, and we are terrible at covering spaces. If they pass our press, it either Romero anticipating a pass, or VDV winning with pace. That's our defensive tactic in a nutshell
Anyone can get attack us with ease. Not to mention set pieces. Every corner is half a goal
Romero doesn't have these problems in the national team, and he's playing with worse defenders that what we have at Spurs.

That said, he needs a rest. He's been playing all year. And he just returned from playing in Colombia with extreme heat

I don’t care what he does at a World Cup, I don’t support Argentina. The mistakes he has made so far this season don’t have much to do with the system especially the Vardy and Gabriel goals where he just switches off.

These are high level athletes paid top money to perform at this level, I’m not buying the ‘tired’ excuse as a cover for making another mistake.

Have never got the love for Romero

solid defender but spent his first couple of seasons being rash / overly aggressive and out injured a lot and now he has cut that out is falling asleep at key moments

never really had a period of 15-20 games in a row where he has been rock solid

VDV looks the elite player of the two and he’s a novice who should be having the issues Romero is

People will comment about his WC form but it’s irrelevant. Does it translate to his club form?

my bigger concern with Romero is if we sold him I’m not sure I back the club to replace him with anyone that much better

Im not defending him, but when is it legal to two handed push someone in the back just before they go to head a ball....
