Make him highest paid player and slap the armband on him
I don't think we could make him captain while Son is with us - you couldn't take it off Son , even if i agree that he would be a superb captain (and probably deserves to be)

As for the wages, yeah i think when you give as much to the team as he does these days, and you are rightly regarded as one of the best in your position, then you have earned the right to be top paid player - i doubt anyone in our squad would begrudge him that tbh, they can see what he does for the team.

Would be great to get him signed to a new deal. Our back 5 would be all on relatively long deals then, properly settled defensive unit. With some good backup options too.

Not sure if defenders tend to get paid less than the forwards or anything like that but when he’s as good as he is and is VC surely he’ll be in that top earner £200k+ bracket or thereabouts

Depending what source you look at / trust, Son is reportedly on circa £190-195k p.w., with Maddison on £20k less and Romero (third highest earner) on £25k less.

I believe Kane and Ndombele are our two highest paid players ever and were both on £200k p.w. If we were to match that for Romero, it would not only make him our top earner but also one of the highest paid CBs in world football. I think the highest paid CB in the world is still Varane, on circa £340k, but Man Utd offered way above the martet rate to lure him away from Real Madrid. £200-250k seems to be the going rate for a top-quality CB.

Every now and then, instead of just being numbers it hits you that that's a million pound a month!
Makes me wish I'd been a bit better, bigger, faster, 40 years younger and had some talent, I'd be made up.

If it makes you feel better, remember that 40% of that goes straight to the tax man.

Ancelotti suggesting Real Madrid's transfers are done for the window. Obviously heard Romero has agreed to sign a new mega 10 year contract at the mighty Spurs and he can't compete with that.

I'm reading the first 2 as saying we need to win a trophy this year or I'm off. But then I'm a bit pessimistic when you know Real Madrid are interested.
