Spurs fans for the past 5 years: "Man, Eriksen is one of our most important players and he never gets a rest. If we don't get him some backup ASAP, he's going to either get hurt or completely burn himself out, both physically and mentally."

[Eriksen begins showing signs of extreme burnout, in part precipitated by nagging injuries]

Spurs fans now: "I don't know what's going on with this guy. He's a cancer and he should be sent to the reserves as punishment."

Yeah sure.
Its burn out.
Coinciding with him wanting away and his contract ending at end of season.
Sure.

Christ what a load of bollocks.

It's no more unreasonable than the amateur psychologists on here diagnosing him using criteria that any professional would reject as insufficient. Or, for that matter, people ignoring everything they said before about Eriksen (a guy who had flaws but was still respected for his service to the club) for a period of bad form that still doesn't come close to outweighing the good he's brought to Spurs. Or, for that matter, acting as if his commitment is self-evidently low when Poch (a manager who will exile non-committed players as talented as Alderweireld and Walker) continues to pick him. I don't know what's wrong with him at the moment and hope Lo Celso starts on Saturday, but pretending like you've got some definitive insights on the situation is a reflection of arrogance and entitlement. It also makes me wonder why any of us would expect loyalty from our players when low confidence is seen as evidence of an unforgivable character flaw.

I’m starting to think there is something more a miss with this whole situation.

It can’t all be down to wanting out, I totally trust Poch to push him out if that were the case.

And Pochs comments on him recently, defending him. If he just wanted out I’m sure Poch wouldn’t feel the need to do that

Just seems more to it, injuries, personal issues etc

Got to say I inadvertently groaned when he came on the other night, and couldn't help doing so again when he misplaced a few simple passes. It may be a bias clouding my judgement but it seemed every time he had the ball he gave it away. I know he was involved in two goals, but that's what it seemed like rightly or wrongly

Personally I don't think it's burn out. I think it's just his time to move onto a new challenge but none of the clubs in a better position than us wanted him.

I know people like to hate millionaire footballers but most people don't perform when in a position they don't want to be in, like when I was in prison.

Eriksen is still ahead of Dele IMO. Dele has been totally out of form for the better part of a year and a half.

The difference is it makes sense for us to try and get Dele back playing because he's still going to be around for a while. Eriksen is gone in the summer regardless of what happens so there's no point in persevering with him.

Alli has shown some signs of desire in the last few matches. At the moment I am happy for Alli to start or come on as a sub. Eriksen at the very best needs a step back from the squad.

The galling thing is we all know he has amazing ability but for nearly a year he has not performed and this season he has not deserved a starting place . We as mere fans can only go on what we see and I think I speak for more than a few when I say Aurier / Eriksen / Aldewield /Rose for differing reasons are not performing or want away and when they play its difficult to accept their awful displays because we know they are capable of so much more . For myself as a fan below par performances would be more accepted or understood if the likes of Sessegnon / Foyth / Parrot / Tanganga / Lo Celso / Davies played instead of them because at least we would know they want to be here and will give 100%. In short when the wantaways play its hard to bear bad results . If the players that actually want to be here play bad result are more palatable. But I believe results will improve if the players that want away are omitted completely from the team and the squad .
Certainly the atmosphere among the fans would improve .

Another one who chose the most ridiculous time to tell the world that he wanted to leave spurs. He had a champions league final to prepare for yet was more interested in finding his next move and boy did it show in his performance that night. He should have been bombed out at the final whistle but because Poch also chose to make an equally ludicrous comment about leaving then he’s been left with little choice but to keep playing him.

He said that after the final. It was Poch who said something similar before hand .

Agree. And the is it burn out, is it this or is it that arguement matters not a jot. Either he is performing well enough to warrant a place in the team or he isnt and nobody can argue that he is. So he should be dropped. The fact he's still starting while leaving at the end of the season just takes the piss and thats what has peoples backs up. Has mine anyway.

If he ends up at United after all of this then he’s a bigger prick than I thought! ?

Well he can do no right in a lot of fans eyes now whatever he does so I don’t blame him for not signing a new contract with us. And it doesn't look like he’s gonna get his dream move to Spain so it will be just about getting the next best. He’s better than Man U but if no one of note is coming in then he’ll have to go with them.

If that 42m can be reinvested to sign another creative midfielder then we can't ask for much more

The idea that players sign do or do not sign contracts because of what fans think or say is not based in reality. Eriksen said we were almost perfect for him and that it wasn’t about money and if the very small amount of clubs that he would consider an upgrade wasn’t available then he would stay. If that was true (which I’m not sure it ever was) then I seriously doubt him reading SC is going to effect his decision one way or the other. It’s not like he’s got any shit at the ground during games from what I can tell but could be wrong on that.

Him going to UTD would be a dick move after he made those comments in the summer. Going to UTD coz “the fans have been mean to me after worshipping me for 6 years” wound make him a monumental twat of the highest order.

Imagine if he signed a new contract. I might as well quit SC for the whole of that contract

He wasn't signing a new contract anyway - he decided what to do a long while before anyone on here started having a go at him. Not sure he's a regular on SC anyway.

If Utd are willing to spend £42m on a player they can get for free in 8 months and hasn't had a good game in 18 months then I have a bridge to sell them.
