If I was Levy I would call Eriksen in and offer him a contract for 3 or 4 years at 180-200k per week. I would also put a clause in it that he can transfer to a European team for 100M and if he did that we would give him a golden handshake of 25M. As long as he is prepared to knuckle down and play, to me this looks a great solution for both sides.

Not for Eriksen. He wants to leave and I'm sure if a bid of £50m had come in from Real Madrid we would have accepted. Why would he then sign with a clause for £100m? No team will pay that.

Will be telling if he starts tomorrow or not. Assuming Poch still wants him, I imagine there'll be a big push to keep him now.

If Eriksen stays our transfer window was good. If not, it was not so good. We need him to stay at least this season.

Hopefully he plays tomorrow!

I agree to an extent. I think our change of shape with Ndombele and Lo Celso coming in will mean that Eriksen isn't as important as he was in the last 3 or 4 seasons. Then again you're losing a £100m+ player - that's going to hurt any team.

I'm not sure I see it like that. We need a favourable resolution, that could be one of a few things:
1) He signs a new contract and gets his groove back
2) He signs a one year contract extension, and delays essentially what we think might/would happen this summer
3) He's sold for a reasonable fee

The one thing I don't want is for him to stay and leave on a free. I think that's a disaster and I think the newly improved (and fresh - don't underestimate that) squad is capable of staying in the top 4 without him.

If you consider he's either player in CM (of a sort) or AM (it's quite a difficult thing to really pigeon hole) we have lots of different ways we can cover the impact he had in those positions: Lo Celso, Ndombele, Lamela being obivous candidates and even Moura, Son and Sessegnon to an extent. Some good players in there - certainly good enough (with enough options) to mean that we shouldn't just accept a €50m write down on a player. In particular one who had a series of poor performances last year

I have been a big advocate of him and people do need to realise that i think this situation has affected his confidence a fair bit, it has knocked him down a peg or two... its not a sign he is not committed to Spurs.

I think him wanting to leave is far more than just a football thing, it is a lifestyle thing... he has had his fill of London and now wants something else BUT will only move to a club who a) matches or exceeds what he has here and b) matches his ambition, I think thats admirable.

We now need to work with him to get him to sign a contract one that is favourable to both parties - stay for the season, see where we are at next summer then sell if he is still keen on leaving.

I feel like he will stay although knowing Madrid they seem like theyre running out of options and may put in a bid to get him. I dont think Zidane wants him so CE will go there but will get the Bale treatment to annoy the President... seems like Zidane and he are already at loggerheads. I think CE would be wise to stay for a season particularly as RM may well get in a new coach by end of this coming season.

I’m hoping it’s RM, Barca or no one. That way a move this window looks unlikely; perhaps Daniel could come to some agreement which sees him respect the club by signing a new contract that contains a release clause to meet his requirements. Then, if either of those big guns come calling, he knows he can go and we know we’ll get a fee. Hopefully he’d knuckle down then and we can all get on with the season - this won’t happen pre- October though.

With the amount of matches Eriksen stays fit for - 35 league matches per year I think - and the consistency of his goal/assist output, how much is one year of him worth to the club?

He’ll be doing it for lower wages than a new signing of his level, and without needing a signing on fee. £10m savings perhaps.

You can’t realistically count on immediately recieving any years of Eriksen level performance at all, for a transfer fee of a further £10m. (And on the development route, the minimum two years you’d allow for a £10m bracket player, like Jack Clarke, to approach Eriksen level, indicates how uncertain the development is to work at all, given how much can go wrong in two years.)

So already, in terms of the transfer fee we could receive this summer and reinvest, a year of Eriksen has value floor of £20m.

Also, we now can’t even bring in a new signing for 6 months minimum. And we’ve seen it can take us 18 months to recruit the right players. So above the £20m minimum that a year of Eriksen is worth as compared to a new signing, we also have to endure the cost of not having either that new signing or Eriksen for, realistically, 12 months.

Which starts to get towards the £50m we’re apparently being offered.

Wow, the hate shown towards him is a bit much. Let's look at the facts:

1 - This will be his 7th season for us.
2 - He has never shown any unwilling to play or downed tools.
3 - He has consistently been one of our top runners ever since he joined.
4 - He is by far our most creative player and has been in the PL since he joined.
5 - He hasn't gone on strike or come out in the media talking about wanting out.
6 - He turned down a move to Man Utd.
7 - He wanted his dream move to Real Madrid and they dicked him around which would have hurt.

CE has been a great servant for us and if he saw his dream move materialising infront of his eyes I dont blame him for being a bit gutted and upset about it when it disappeared. Now if he doesn't get his move over the next 3 weeks, I fully expect him to continue working hard and providing goals for the team. Who knows, now that he actually has a midfield behind him, he may have a much better season than last.

Give him a few weeks training with the new players, bit of a different atmosphere and he may have change of heart and stick with us.

I would be genuinely shocked if he doesn’t with Dele and Son out. He played plenty in preseason. Unless we just lined up another team to sell to it makes no sense to sit him.

Agreed. Why play him in every preseason friendly but not in the first match of the season?

I don't think he's the type of person who will just run his contract down. When he was at Ajax, didn't he sign a new deal simply so Ajax would get a fee for him?

If I had to guess I would say that he will sign a contract with a release clause in it to certain clubs for a fee that is lower than we may otherwise have been able to get.

From what I hear his strop seems to be over. I'm guessing it was down to frustration and not knowing what was happening Madrid have really fucked him about tbh.

He will however need to sit down and sign a new deal otherwise we will look to sell if we can find a buyer. It's just too much money to let him walk away on a free.

Makes perfect sense. Hopefully some form of agreement can be reached, even if with a reasonable release clause to protect his value.

I left a decent job because I could not stand the idea of spending my entire career at the same place. It felt like knowing the end of a book when only a few chapters in. So, I can understand Eriksen's itch to find something new, and not have it be a reflection of some dissatisfaction with Spurs. Hopefully he sees our recent acquisitions as part of a new project to be excited about: winning the premier league.

As far as his performance this past season...he missed the early part due to a vague "abdominal" issue, and then had another vague medical procedure after the end of the season. Perhaps he too had a nagging injury that prevented from being in top form for much of the year...
