Player watch: Christian Eriksen

If I were a foreign club i'd be waiting as late as possible (their deadline, not ours) to lower the price. My worry is how this may impact moves for GLC, Dybala and the rest. We'll need to bite the bullet and get those in and hope we can shift Eriksen after our window closes. Whether that's something we're willing to do however...

Agreed, we can't really let what is going on with Eriksen affect our business, ultimately it's our fault that we are in this situation and regardless of how much Eriksen goes for he needs replacing by a top talent considering what we are losing from our side.

To be fair we payed £11million for Eriksen... we had a good few years from him, i'll happily take £40-50 million abroad for him, or even in the UK. Its still a huge profit.

Likes Erik Lamela, deal with it.

Spurs were demanding £80m from United for Eriksen, plus he is not motivated by money & wants a lifestyle change. So no great surprise if they have ended interest (per @sistoney67).

Dan KP

That reads like Eriksen wasn't interested and that is why Utd didn't move forward rather than Utd turning him down.

I think this probably counts as bad news at this point. No Utd means no transfer this summer, and probably no Dybala for us.

I was wondering if you were keeping and eye on here! Nothing as addictive as deadline ITK!

Levy must have some leverage to demand that. I dont know whether to be mad or amazed

I'm guessing he just wants him to go abroad. Ultimately if Eriksen helped Utd to CL football ahead of us it would cost us more than £80m in the long run. I suspect we would rather sell for £40m abroad.

It would make sense if he’s become a makeweight in a deal for Dybala. He’d be a perfect addition to that Juventus team.

What? When has Christian Eriksen EVER "downed tools" emotionally or otherwise in his Spurs career?!

People blather on that he was shit last year but he carried our midfield in the absence of most of it and worked just as hard as ever AND still got over 100 chances created in major comps.

Christ our fandom is spiteful. Chelsea supporters treated Hazard like a hero and the prick downed tools for seasons when he didn't like the manager. Eriksen says he might like a new challenge after helping turn us from a 5-8th Club to a Champions League final and our fans write shit like this.

Baffling. Just unbelievable. And we "expect loyalty" SMH:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
If you think he looked even remotely interested for large parts of the second half of last season, you're delusional. He went from being probably the single most feared set piece taker in the league to delivering consistently dross corners and free kicks (with a small handful of exceptions). I'm not saying he didn't put effort in (that's why I added "emotionally") but it's been plain to see for months that his heart isn't in Tottenham any more.

Not sure why you're comparing his situation to Hazard's, their entire team (or certainly the influential ones among them) downed tools when they wanted rid of a manager. Also Hazard stepped up in the EL final and played out of his skin, can you say the same for Eriksen in the CL final?

bit convenient that the two main spurs reporters are repeating the "Eriksen wants a change of lifestyle and to move abroad" even using the same jargon. I get the feeling they've been fed the same info and a move is already on the cards for old Christian. Their posts are just too similar.

And we already knew it wasn't about the money because the club offered more of it to him several times.

Got to the stage now where I just want him gone and out the club.

No hard feelings as he’s done well for us but I don’t like this negativity hanging over the club and someone who isn’t putting 100% effort in.

Respectfully I think this is mostly a load of bollocks.

And I think you should treat Eriksen with more respect.

But you won't. So whatevs...

The leverage was that they wouldn't have had a chance to sign him on an open market, and were a PL rival. Moot point now though.

I want him gone for his own good, he wants a new challenge which is fair enough - he's done a lot for us and been integral in our transition to one of the big boys. If he wants to experience abroad, fine - he could've done it without running his deal down but he did the same at Ajax too. At least in that case he signed an extension to ensure they received some compensation.

Moving to United would've contradicted what he said. £40m from abroad, to Madrid or Juve, would be the best for everybody imvfhoyboc.

We simply can't wait around hoping to sell Eriksen before completing any moves for Dybala, Coutinho, Lo Celso, Fernandes etc etc - we need to sign first!!

Eriksen wants to move abroad, if he doesn't get it this window he will run down his contract and go on a free next year.
He is holding all the cards. You cant force him to sign a new contract, the club have done everything to get him to sign one over the last 18 months and he has refused.
