I cannot believe Eriksen is doing this to us. He said he would sign for us if the fascist cockmunchers weren't interested, which they're clearly not. But instead of inking a deal with us (one that understandably would've included a very reasonable release clause to any non-League team he approved of, front and center in the contract)- dude up and threw his toys out of the pram and, by doing so, is now making his situation exponentially more difficult to address. The little fucker.

I despise him now- and no, I most certainly will not "thank him for his service," something I would've gladly done had he simply acted like a true professional and helped the club on his way out. People bleat on and on about how this is a business, how he had no affinity for Spurs (but rather saw us as a stepping stone on the way to landing at a European "giant") and yet here we are, 6 years down the line and we have improved our club to the point where we are one of the European "giants." We are a first-class organization by anyone's standard, one capable of winning trophies, with a gorgeous new state-of-the-art stadium and training ground, located smack dab in the middle of one of the most desirable cities in which to live on the planet. Furthermore, we are/were willing to open up the vault for him financially, are clearly headed in the right direction, have one (and possibly two) world class players amongst the 25 and have what might be the best manager on earth-- and yet here he is, unwilling to facilitate his exit in a way that doesn't burn every bridge he's ever built between himself, the squad and us supporters.

How does he not feel enough affinity for us to at least help us out a bit? Is he that coldhearted that he just doesn't care? We are letting him walk for God's sake-- we just don't want it to be for next to nothing! Can he not understand this? I just can't fathom how a guy who spent over half a decade with us- and who had many amazing times/moments/memories at our club- can all of a sudden get so grimy. He's literally undoing- by the day- all of the goodwill he's built up with our fanbase the more this nonsense drags on.

Anyway I say if he can get dirty, so should we. We ought to buy both Fernandes and Lo Celso and then just let Eriksen rot for a year in the reserves. Obviously I know that that won't happen- never in a million years- but man oh man do I wish it would. We have the money; Ndombele's free (the Champions League run paid for him) and Fernandes and GLC would simply represent the completion of two big acquisitions in three windows; hardly doing a Leeds...

I suppose even as a player you don't need to have Tottenham in your heart (as we all do), but- on the flipside- you shouldn't be able to wipe your ass with us either.

Fuck him. Recalcitrant, emotionless, tackle-avoiding little fucker. GTFO of my club.

United have stuck their oar in with so many players in recent years and we've refused, why would we suddenly roll over and sell them one of our best? Confused.com.

Because the alternative is losing him for free in a year.

Frannkly, if this is what's needed to ensure we bring in the players needed, then I can live with it. I don't hate United and I am also not going to pretend that Utd aren't a huge pull, that club is still the most successful English club in Eriksen's entire lifetime. It's not as if it's Chelsea or Arsenal, and there have been many players represent both clubs over the years.

If we lose Eriksen but end the window having brought in Ndombele, Lo Celso and Sessegnon then we go into the season with more quality than we had last season and ultimately that's all that's important.

The only real worry with this one is that Eriksen in the side makes Utd look a pretty good, but I still reckon we look a fair bit better.

I think this is a last resort scenario for both DL and CE.
With the window shutting early and clubs around Europe waiting so they can lowball us for him, this information leaking out might mean that teams that are serious with move closer to our valuation.
Worst case: we sell to United
Best case: we sell to someone in Europe
Amazing optimistic case: we send him to juve and get Dybala in return

It just sucks selling one of our best players to United. Sets a bad precedence for other players to push for a similar move and only reinforces the idea in the media that Spurs are still a feeder type club for teams like United that we've finished above and outperformed recently. Not to mention if CE returns to form it immediately puts United ahead of us in the pecking order imo. Will be deadly with that pace they have up top threading in passes. I would rather lose him on a free to Real than sell to United.

I can't imagine I'm the only one wondering how the apparent general squad harmony leads to Eriksen, Rose, Alderweireld and possibly Vertonghen leaving on the cheap or free though, can I? And that's when I thought they were heading abroad...

Eriksen is a £100m plus player in the current market. Something doesn't add up.

IF we get the players we're linked to, well, that'll be nice, of course, but it still feels like something is missing and we're taking a leap into the unknown without our only truly creative outlet in recent years.

Normally positive, but I'm starting to feel a bit gutted and am definitely feeling other people's frustrations with this window. Even if it all comes together, it feels like cheap transfer deadline day drama points.

Ah well, we'll see. Fingers and toes crossed you're right. Fuck, hate feeling negative with Spurs. It's been awhile, and normally I have plenty of faith with Levy and Poch. Count to 10...

Even if that meant being unable to adequately replace him?

I love Eriksen as a player, he's been wonderful and whatever happens I'll remember him fondly, but there's a difference in losing one of many top players at the club to how it used to be, when we had a stand out player and lost him (Sheringham, Campbell, Berbatov, Bale, etc).

I don't think Chelsea consider themselves a feeder club having sold Matic to Utd, or Arsenal for having sold Sanchez (in very similar circumstances). I don't like that we're strengthening a rival, but if it's Utd or nothing, and our own business depends on it, then to not sell him to Utd would be cutting our nose off to spite our face.

I too find it odd, but I guess the common denominator is that when signing for us the Ajax guys would have all envisaged either winning something with us, or using us as a stepping stone, and we've not quite reached 'winning something' stage in time to save ourselves from being a stepping stone. In Eriksen's case, he wants a traditional super club. In Alderweireld's, he wants all the money. With Rose it's a bit different, the guy has not really ever seemed settled (even at the height of his Pochettino bromance) and a bit like Trippier seems to feel unloved (incorrectly in my opinion). Vertonghen, he seems to want to stay and it's us that are holding back at this point due to his age.

As for missing something, I love a ball playing number 10 but there are other ways to play good football, as Liverpool are showing since selling Coutinho. If we end up with Sessegnon, Son and Lucas as 'pace' options, and Dele, Lo Celso and Lamela as number 10s, then I think we've got a great selection. Add in that we seem to be moving away from central midfielders who are solid but slow down our play, so any options made up from Ndombele, Winks, Sissoko and Skipp should see the ball get forward to our attackers much faster than we're used to, meaning that there'll be more space to operate in for the front 4 so less requirement for a pure lock picker.

I'm not saying I'm thrilled to see Eriksen go, and to a rival, quite the opposite, I'm very sad about it. I'm just saying that if the next couple of days go to plan then there will be a lot of talent and energy available, varied and deep, from which Pochettino, if he's the great manager we believe him to be, should be able to devise systems and styles which make us a real force.

Onions of course.

Fairly certain at this point that it’s more the club pushing this move than Eriksen. We need player sales to conduct our business. Couldn’t move players last summer, can’t afford for that to happen two summers in a row, especially when two of them can leave on a free next year.

Fast forward to April and we’ve gone out in the quarters of Champs League and are fighting for 4th. Eriksen has seemed interested in playing roughly half the matches. Bruno has been showing loads of potential at Man U, who sit 6th and it’s obvious Eriksen in and Pogba out wouldn’t have made them Top 4 worthy. Our fans complain about how they said all along that Levy should have known better and sold him to the highest bidder regardless of who it was and bought Bruno like we were rumored to have been.

Fast forward to April, we’re fighting for the league title and CL. It was worth the wait for GLC. Bruno shows potential for us snd is beginning to come up huge. Bale is picking up where he left off and is firing alongside Kane and Son. Eriksen is pissing around at United under his manager, Ryan Giggs, after Jose Mourinho turns his head for Madrid(y)

You all are vastly underestimating United. From Boxing day on they had 40 points to our 29 including beating us at home.

They would have added a stud at RB, a very solid CB and one of the best creators in the league. It is completely reasonable and even likely that they would be better than us.

I'm still holding out hope that Eriksen is going to try his luck at Madrid after the English deadline in this regard and that Levy sacks up and bring in his replacement plus 1 before he goes (but doubt that happens).

And they’d almost certainly have lost one of the premier CMs in the world if they bring in Eriksen.

They aren’t going anywhere.

Eriksen is a better player than Pogba...

I disagree. But even if I grant you Eriksen being better, he’s not so much better than Pogba that he turns them into a contender. Not with Ole there. Shine’s off the shoe.

I have zero problem with selling players to the highest bidder, regardless of to whom that is.

Would I prefer to get him out of the Prem? Sure. But if Man U is the high bidder and its sell him now and buy a replacement or risk him leaving after the window closes or for free in the summer then have fun in Manchester, Christian

It's nearly impossible for me to believe that there aren't any big clubs other than United who are interested. He's an established top player who has consistently been one of the best playmakers in England for years and is available for something like 25% of what 18-year-old talents such as Joao Felix or Ousmane Dembele have cost in recent years. Madrid, Atleti, and Napoli at the very least are actively in the market for playmakers. Bayern's squad is shockingly threadbare. There's got to be interest.

That being the case I have to believe that interested parties are dragging their heels on going in for him because they think they'll have Levy over a barrel once the English window closes. If he's still our player come Friday our choices will be to sell him for a pittance either this month or in January, or to lose him for nothing. Waiting makes sense from their point of view, but it'd be a disaster for us since we couldn't replace him.

If we can agree a deal in principle with United then that would give Levy a tiny bit more bargaining leverage to negotiate a sale abroad. Before concluding the United deal Levy would naturally be on the phone with every chairman in Europe saying "I know you thought you'd be able to low-ball us but we've agreed a deal with United for £60m. We're willing to come down on that price in order to sell him abroad but you've got to act now because he's out the door." Ideally we'd find a taker, but even if not we'd at least have resolved the uncertainty and enabled ourselves to move forward with our other business. It's far from an ideal situation to be in but we've got to make the best of it. Hopefully there will be some club out there that will bite.
