City is one of the biggest clubs in the world. Utd used to be.
I'm sick of the 'big club' debate but I'm gonna bite.

United are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

City have one of the best teams in the world.

It will be quite a long time before City matches Utd in the club stakes, despite having a far better team.

This thread just gets me thinking what most of you lot would have been writing about Hoddle if the internet was around then.

Hoddle wasn't known for his tacking, but just like Eriksen has provided many great moments with his goals and assists, at about the same rate as Hoddle did for us, and although Hoddle helped us win trophies, Eriksen has been the lynchpin in the consistent team we have had over the last 5 years.

Hope he stays, but if he goes will be fondly remembered by me, and will wish him well wherever he ends up.
Spot bloody on. The dummy spitting by some of our so called fans over Eriksen is embarrassing. 6 years of stellar service playing a huge part in our rise counts for nothing to these knee jerkers. All because he has spoke of his desire for a new challenge...... As you said God only knows how these lot would have reacted to Hoddle, Waddle, Lineker, etc, in years gone by.
Any wonder when players like Modric/Bale/etc have no feel for our club when our fans behave like this & think it’s ok to abuse them on Twitter/Instagram ?‍♂️

They key bits from the article:

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had valued Eriksen at £130million when English clubs made enquiries at the end of last season, but European clubs may try to snap up the Dane for under £50m.

The 27-year-old could also be left on the substitutes’ bench by manager Mauricio Pochettino if he is not sold and Tottenham land either Fernandes or Lo Celso.

Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri is a big fan of Eriksen, but the Italian club had prioritised a bid to try to re-sign Paul Pogba. Real Madrid, who have also been chasing Pogba, have Eriksen on their list of potential targets but have delayed making any move for the player while they try to convince Manchester United to sell. Both clubs could make moves for Eriksen after Thursday, depending on what happens with Pogba, while Atletico have also been keeping an eye on Eriksen this summer and Inter coach Antonio Conte wants reinforcements.

Tottenham could face similar situations over Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose, who had both been expected to leave the club this summer. Tottenham are closing in on Sessegnon with midfielder Josh Onomah heading the other way, which would potentially encourage bids for Rose. Like Eriksen, Alderweireld is entering the last year of his contract which means Tottenham may be forced to listen to offers for the Belgian after Thursday’s English deadline has passed.

Tottenham braced for European clubs to bid less than £50m for Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen could yet leave Spurs even if he is not sold this week

5 August 2019 • 5:00pm

Tottenham Hotspur are braced for European clubs making cut-price bids for Christian Eriksen if he is not sold before the English transfer window shuts on Thursday.
Although Premier League clubs cannot sign players after 5pm on Thursday, the transfer windows in Italy, Spain, Germany and France do not shut until September 2, more than three weeks later.
Tottenham are working hard to try to sign at least one of Bruno Fernandes or Giovani Lo Celso before Thursday, despite Eriksen still being at the club.
That gives the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, who have all shown an interest in Eriksen, the chance to try to drive the midfielder’s price down after Thursday’s English window has shut. Inter Milan are also monitoring the situation.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had valued Eriksen at £130million when English clubs made enquiries at the end of last season, but European clubs may try to snap up the Dane for under £50m.
Eriksen is entering the final 12 months of his contract and Tottenham face losing him for nothing if he is not sold this summer.

The 27-year-old could also be left on the substitutes’ bench by manager Mauricio Pochettino if he is not sold and Tottenham land either Fernandes or Lo Celso.
Eriksen is still yet to attract a firm offer, despite admitting that he fancied a new challenge at the start of June and rejecting a big contract offer from Spurs.

Tottenham could face similar situations over Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose, who had both been expected to leave the club this summer.
Rose may be allowed to leave to a European club after Thursday if, as expected, Spurs complete the signing of Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon.
Roma refused to meet Alderweireld’s £25m release clause that expired last month and would not meet Levy’s subsequent £40m valuation of the 30-year-old.

But Roma are considering making a new approach after Thursday, although Alderweireld may prefer to leave Spurs on a free transfer next summer, when Jan Vertonghen is also out of contract.
Vertonghen said: “I just want to focus on this year. I know I have got one year left, so I know a lot of questions will be asked.
“I have said it before, I am very happy at the club. The supporters have been great for me, the manager has improved me a lot and has a lot of confidence in me. I feel very good physically so I am not sure what is going to happen this year.
“I can only say I am happy where I am at and I feel the support from the manager, team-mates and the squad.”

I can’t believe money is the problem with these deals I just thought Levy thought they were massively overpriced? I don’t see how getting some money for a player will make us pay well over the odds for another one? Levy is smarter than that surely?

Not if he’s desperate

Good source, I reckon this is pretty much on the money.

Right now I'm hoping for GLC and Bruno in with Eriksen leaving to Spain/Italy.

We'll bring in one of Lo Celso/Fernandes and sell Eriksen for cheap in a few weeks time.

Which wouldn't be good enough - a clear weakening of the squad.

I would 100% accept that. Even if we only land one of GLC or Fernandes. We can try in January to sign another AM. We cannot lose Eriksen on a free transfer and he refuses to sign. If we can get 40-50m for him, that is a steal.

That's my fear. I don't want to sound like a spoilt child but if Eriksen is sold and only one of GLC or BF is brought in, Levy has mugged us off. It's just not enough.

Honestly 50m would be good business if we replaced with GLC and BF.

What can Levy do if it's to one of the European clubs after the deadline. It's the Premier League's own doing.

I'm certainly of the thinking that the vultures will be lurking post Thursday 5 p.m.

Can't see him staying to be honest, but by feck what a complete and utter clusterfuck.

Sad enough losing one of our key players, but the fact that it's hampering our progress in relation to transfers this window just adds to the misery.

Reckon we need 2, will get one along with Sess, and the Dane moves post Thursday 5 p.m

Onions..

No, I accept he's over the barrel with CE, that's not the issue. His failure to bring in two AMs will be the issue. We needed GLC and from what we've heard from ITKs all summer, Ndombele, GLC and Sess have been our main targets and if CE doesn't sign a new deal, we will look to sign one other (which clearly looks to be BF). If we only sign one of GLC or BF then Levy has IMO let Poch down and us fans.

Even if Eriksen stayed, we have no alternative to him, simply just replacing him will still leave us short in that area.

We need BF and GLC if Eriksen goes. We already look like a depleted squad for the opening game, No Sonny, Alli or Eriksen, Foyth, Aurier and Davies with new signings unlikely to be picked for the Villa match, we look like we are down to the bare bones as usual.

None of the other big 6 let themselves get into this state, only Spurs.

Neg all you like. It’s true.

Saying we sold Walker to City as a rebuttle to Utd being beneath Eriksen doesn’t wash.

City is infinitely a bigger and better club than Man U at the moment.

That article beautifully sets up the move to United. Basically broadcasting that we will only get 30-40mil after the deadline, so we should be delighted when the club gets 50mil from a rival.

The earlier Prem window has absolute fucked us on this one. Wouldn't surprise me if half the top European clubs have been sat waiting to pounce after our deadline closes, it's what we'd do in their situation.

If we sell Rose too, as suggested, then it's a swap between Eriksen, Dembele, Rose, Tripper and Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessegnon. Whilst younger, that's clearly weaker for this season imo.

If we only get 1 then we need to keep hold of Eriksen until later on in the European window, and get him to do the business in our opening 2 or 3 games when our injuries/suspensions should have cleared up and his replacement has had a little bit of time to bed in.
