Eriksen was below his own standards last season, perhaps even below the standards required for a starter in a side with lofty ambitions, but he was not crap, he was actually decent, with a few poor games but also a few very good games.
Cant agree mate, maybe I'm holding him up to his own standards, could be true. almost every game I saw I was underwhelmed.

Since activating the ignore function, these threads have become increasingly schizophrenic

Good to know you’re a fan of my posts!

Oh, wait a minute....

And just to stay on topic... can’t decide if all the latest with Christian is positive and moving towards signing a new deal, or all posturing/wrapping in cotton wool for a move. Time will tell.

Mate, id give my left nut for him to perform how I/we all know he can. For me when he's up for it he can play anywhere. He let us down last season, and its only my opinion, but it was because he lost interest in us. He had a CL final, played like a chump. Almost cost us against Ajax.
That i find really hard to forgive.
Sorry, your opinion is that Eriksen lost interest in playing in a CL final, something every footballer has dreamed about since childhood, and instead played poorly because he wanted to move and he thought that having a bad game in front of two billion eyes would help him achieve that?

I’ve seen some real nonsense on this site in my time, but that’s up there.

I would like to see Eriksen play in a more open Poch system.
When we are fluid Eriksen really excels in that.
I find when we are moving the ball side to side slow building he is one of the culprits and the possession game may have been something Poch instilled in him.
I would like to see more fluidly as our main game and not this war of attrition till the opposition gets tired.
Eriksen can thrive more with an open game and Ndombeke behind him

How many times have you made this (or a slight variation of) comment, man?

Not to mention it could be the first time in Eriksen's Tottenham career that he has had genuine competition for his place/the ability to rest.

I think it might be fair to say Sigurossson was competition for him in his first season. We struggled to fit them both into the same team, with fewer high profile games then as well, and ended up dumping Gylfi the following year, which was a decision Pochettino ultimately regretted.

Siggy would never be competition for Eriksen. He's a player of moments whose contribution when he's not scoring or assisting is next to nothing.

Eriksen will dictate games by controlling our passing game, that's not Siggys style.

There is brilliance in things Eriksen does and sometimes he is very anonymous. I came onto solution that it he reacts to situations different ways.if the possibilities are there he takes them but when it's not there he doesnt make things happen. He is techically very good but creativeness is about making something out of less.
This is why I think he would do better with Ndombele behind him opening up space as Eriksen would do well with that scenario as would the others

Ben this would imply that Eriksen when challenged gets better.Im not so sure about that

That's the beauty of it. He either improves when challenged for places or gets benched. That has not been an option before, because a shockingly bad Eriksen was still more creative than Wanyama, Skipp and a broken lamela. who were sitting on the bench.

Exactly. But he is treated as a God in some places. Genius in others.Thats what irks me and here he is being compared to Wanyama etc.
Why?
Really it's a conundrum.
He either is a galactico or not.Maybe that's RMs question about him.

I know but all challenges are about pressure.

How many times have you heard Poch speak about ”arriving in a good moment”? Fresh and ready.
Eriksen unlike most others has had zero competition for his role which has to lead to some sort of fatigue.
Everyone speaks of Kane getting knackered but Eriksen plays more games, runs more every game and is supposed to have all the answers when opposition parks the bus.
Competition from GLC will allow for rotation and much needed rest every now and then and if by chance GLC overtakes Eriksen that will sure as hell make us hard to stop from scoring.
Eriksen is a top player, overused and knackered last season but still a top player!
