I find it crazy that people think what dictates a price is whether the buying club see him as a star or a squad player. No what dictates a price is his importance to the selling team and whether somebody is willing to pay what we value him at. We're not going to sell him for 70/80 million below what Madrid just paid for Hazard who has the same contract situation because Madrid see Hazard as a star and Eriksen as depth, it's ludicrous. Eriksen isn't as good as Hazard fine, but he's not worth 80 million less.

I'm glad it's Levy who's negotiating this fuck me.

It's a mix of buyer valuation (what current and future value does the player add), seller valuation (what future value does the player add?) and general market valuation (is there a similar product out there for more/less, and is it obtainable?).

Eriksen is in a bit of an odd situation where he's clearly a talented player with only one year left on his contract, but where the truly elite European clubs aren't all that fussed about bringing him in.

So all in all, I'm not too sure what he'll go for in the end (what he will be valued at) and where he'll be playing his football next season.

The western world works on the concept of supply and demand
No Demand? The price means nothing
It's about leverage not Levy

I agree with what you're saying but we're not going to lower our price because Madrid want him but don't see him as a galactico are we, realistically we aren't going to see him for 30-40 million because Madrid have decided he's merely a squad player. This is Levy we are talking about.

At least we now know why he had performance issues last season. His head was turned 12 months ago. I think we need to get him to move on if motivation is to be a problem if he doesn’t sign a contract before 8 August. Even if he does there has to be question marks based on last season if he was sulking.

I was with this train of thought before and periods of contract uncertainty have in the past seemed to affect him, but I've changed .

Think about the CL final played at RM's ground . It is impossible to imagine that Eriksen didn't want to impress his dream club by playing at his best .If he had done so he may well already be there .

But he absolutely didn't . He was as anonymous as he's ever been this season . To me this suggests form issues...or, as mentioned above ,tiredness/burnout .

Ordinarily I'd agree, but the clock is ticking as he'll be gone for free before too long

What we need is a good old fashioned bidding war to boost his price

Problem is, if reports are to be believed, CE only wants Madrid so no other club have been sniffing around him

I'm guessing Levy is hoping that changes in the next 4 and a half weeks, but if it doesn't I wouldn't be shocked to see him join RM for £40m

I'd just better clarify the 'pissy' part of my post yesterday. That's exactly as it was passed to me.

That doesn't mean he's downed tools or gone on strike it just means he's pissed off about the situation and he's making that known. In his defence Madrid have been courting him for ages and all of a sudden they won't pay up what's required to get him because he's not pivotal in their plans. They do still want him and the club's are still talking but it's not the fore gone conclusion I believe he was expecting it to be.

I can understand him being pissed off with the situation, I just hope he doesn't get too pissed off with the club/management.
Hopefully he's sensible enough to understand that we're within our rights to ask a decent price for (as we see it) a prized asset.
I'm assuming we weren't daft enough to make him any silly promises, that we're going back on.

Hell I would be pissed if the club suddenly wouldn't pay that for me, when i'm in the final year of my contract. How much would they even want me then? Must have Eriksen thinking a extra time about the move. (hopefully)

Thanks for clarifying, but reading between the lines at the time that is basically how I read your post anyway. Just feels to me all parties need to wait for the Pogba situation to be resolved for this to move forward.

I can't actually decide anymore whether I think Real buying Pogba is a good thing or not. Before I would have said unequivocally yes as it would probably mean Eriksen stays and possibly sign an extension. Now I'm thinking they could still sign Pogba, but he doesn't sign and we decide we want rid anyway and he ends up at one of our rivals or just runs his contract down.

Would Levy sell to a rival?
Or would he eat the 50m

Would love us to get Isco out of this deal for Eriksen. Isco must be thinking of moving on if they bring in Eriksen I would imagine.

Agree, but this isn't bothering me half as much as the Bale or Modric saga.
We've grown in stature as a club and don't have to put up with so much shit anymore.
