To everyone suggesting we won't pay a higher fee than what he was sold for, you're not taking into account contract length.
He was sold with 6 months remaining, hence £16m. He's now got 4 odd years left so is worth more to Inter.
He is worth more to Inter. So we "have" to pay more than 16mn. Doesn't mean we are desperate enough to.

I don't think anyone is disputing that. Inter will rightly ask for a bigger fee based on the fact that he's got 4 years left.

It's just whether we would be prepared to buy a player back for considerably more money than we sold him for 6 months ago, after he ran his contract down causing us to sell him well below market value in the first place.

My answer to whether we would do that would be emphatically no, and in this instance I wouldn't blame Levy at all for taking that stance.

The only advantage I can see is if Chris can be signed for a lower wage than we were prepared to extend at anyway, otherwise it's an economic disaster - especially as his form hasn't improved in a new team (various reasons of course, but is he still a £30m+ player in this market?)

No thanks, I’m agin‘ it.
He was unmotivated and uninterested i.e he stunk over the past two seasons. That penalty against Colchester away was the final straw for me.

It's irrelevant what we sold him for.

Even (or especially) Levy will know that: we had a player near the end of his contract, and we got a good price for him taking that into account. If we were to buy him back, we'd be buying a player on a longer contract who is therefore worth more. The same goes for any other club that might but him.

He is, in effect, a different commodity from the one we sold.

Is he worth that sort of money to THFC? I don't know, but quite possibly he is. It's the same question as we should ask about every transfer, not what the previous price was.

His exit is still a bit too sour for me. He tried to take a piss on the club and tell us it was raining with his lack of effort and then snuck out the back door. It’s a pass from me

He’s the same player that we sold. He was crap for 2 years before he left and he’s been crap for Inter. Regardless of whether he had 6 months left on his contract or 5 years... he’s the polar opposite of the player he was 2-4 years ago.

Yeah I know all that and am not disputing it from a technical and purely business point of view.

However, despite Levy being as close to an archetypal hard nosed, emotionless businessman as you can get, he is still human (see his attempts in the Amazon doc to convince us of that ;):D) and in my view will not want to lose face so spectacularly (and that will be the case if we bought him back for double the price despite taking the contract lengths into account).

Just my opinion.

If he'd been gone 4/5 years then sure, I wouldn't have an issue in looking to bring him back, but this has been a matter of months.
He wanted to leave. Made his bed, so he can lie in it as far as I'm concerned.

I think that's stretching it a bit. He was crap for the last 6 months, but not crap before that (although clearly not quite as consistent or focused as he was before).

If you've watched the Doc today you can see Eriksens decision to leave was nothing to do with the club or the players he 100% had a plan for his career to try something different. Maybe his experience at Inter has shown him the grass isn't always greener. Having seen the training ground and the conditions our payers live in I don't think there is a better club for a professional to spend their day to day lives and maybe that realisation has hit him now and if he comes back 100% committed what a player we would have again.

are you saying the astroturf is not always greener?

To my mind having Eriksen in our squad would strengthen us considerably. Even playing well below his peak, he was contributing.

For instance in the last two seasons he scored 17 goals and made 23 assists in all competitions- including at Inter. In his final full season with us he was joint third highest for number of assists in the Premier League. In fact nearly 30% of our PL goals in 18/19 were scored by Eriksen or came from assists from Eriksen. I'm not sure how that squares with him being crap, or useless or whatever.

In theory he is also more than capable of rediscovering his finest form of 3 or 4 years ago. He is only 28 and is hardly a player reliant on his pace for effectiveness.

We may well decide to pass on him for various reasons. But I think at around £30m he would represent good business for us or one of our PL rivals.

I agree, I’d gladly have him back if the price was right.

How can some of the posters that want him back be the same posters that turned on Ndombele when ITK said he didn't want to be at the club? That's hearsay, whereas Eriksen outright said he didn't want to be here and twerked for all the big clubs around Europe. Undoubtedly a great player, but fuck me at least be consistent in your stances.

I do t want him back, and I agree with your overall sentiment, but I think the different between their success with us probably plays a part in the different treatment they get.

I personally think we should stay far away, we should try to train Dele, Ndombele, Lo Celso and Bergwijn into maximising their potential.

Yeah, no erasing what Eriksen has done at Spurs - but there were posters who were aggressively anti-Ndombele because the Goat posted that he doesn't want to be here, if they felt so strongly about that, I find it baffling that they're now happy to take Eriksen after he told us he wanted to bounce
