the angle is about how he might want to go to Man Utd. The main part about him being determined to leave is just where the preview runs out.

'But sources have told The Athletic that Eriksen definitively told Mourinho he wished to pursue a new challenge after six years in north London. Eriksen is understood to respect Mourinho but the former United manager’s arrival has not altered his personal picture.

A source with knowledge of the pair’s discussions described the meeting as “productive” with a common understanding agreed and Mourinho has said: “I’m not going to tell you what we said. Just me and him — and Amazon. He’s committed, loves the club and is one of us.”

I think it’s just framed like that because we are playing them tomorrow. I doubt Eriksen seriously thought about going there in the summer.

Yeh, I wasn't bothered about the United part. Just the bit about him telling Mourinho he's leaving. If that's the case, it needs to be in January for a fee.

Time to part ways. For whatever reason form/focus/can't be arsed (take your pick) he's been awful for a number of months. Previously our most creative and probably consistent player, now not worthy of being in the squad.

All the best to him but I hope he goes early in this window and for a fee that pays back some of our investment and helps us sign someone else.

As much as it pisses me off, Eriksen has every right to run down his contract, he has left a lot of money on the table in order to do so. On the other hand, he has been woeful at times this season and looked shot of confidence. It's a real problem for Jose just as it was for Poch. It is also an emotive situation and I totally understand the reactions on here and the calling for him to be dropped or banished.

Taking a step back though, when playing well he is an incredible asset and one who could have a real impact on our season, just as he did against Olympiacos. There is no reason why that should change just because he could be leaving on a free, as much as we may resent the situation. Is it really worth selling him for a pittance in January when we could keep him for the season, just because he won't commit his longer term future?

Another way to look it - Eriksen has been the best playmaker in the PL for the best part of five years, on form he really is a sensational player. Now what if he wasn't ours, but we had the chance to get him on loan for this season. No option to buy and a clear declaration from the player that he has not intention of staying, just the chance to benefit from the best playmaker in the league for this season. Jose is coming in with a short period of time to realistically prove himself. If I were him I would be interested in that loan.

Whatever price we get for him in January it is nothing compared to what Eriksen could be worth for the rest of the season. The problem Jose has to solve, and which Poch could not, is how do you get the best out of the Dane without this situation affecting the squad.

Yes - shame it's ended on a sour note but this would be an ideal scenario.

He's been a great servant to the club and also a solid example of not strengthening/improving the squad. We relied heavily on him for creativity in key games and we never backed his position up or provided some competition for him really. I hope GLC fills his shoes and we add some additional creative players with vision to supplement this need in the squad.

Won't be United as he's always been very clear that it's a lifestyle choice as much as a sporting ambitions. Utd wouldn't be giving him either.

Personally I think he'll end up at Juve or Madrid on a free at the end of the year rather than going for a nominal fee in Jan. Either would be fine in my book but I'd hope that he commits to putting in a shift with us before leaving at the end of the season rather than sitting back and being disruptive.

Dismissing employees for poor performance is a common occurrence.

Sport is totally different to other professions where you can prove poor performance through metrics, etc. but even if we were to follow that system we'd need to issue warnings first. And how would you prove he's been poor when he was nominated for the best midfielder in the champions league, was included in the shortlist for the FIFA World Player of The Year, when the manager at the time was publicly saying he was happy with his performances and when he was selected for almost every game possible?

if you are saying from a player perspective, i would agree but not from a legal perspective

Access to our facilities would be included in his contract. If we were to refuse him access we'd be in breach of that contract.

There's also legislation from FIFA that prevents players from being treated unfavourably if they refuse to sign a contract.

I know :). My response was in reference to the point that Eriksen hasn’t done anything wrong when he has and it’s therefore fair to freeze him out.

Making him train with the kids and never picking him again isn’t treating him unfavourably.

As a Spurs fan I say don't let the door hit you on the way out. You've been rubbish for the best part of the year now.

As a human being I say good luck to you and who wouldn't want to live and play in either Spain or Italy.

Yeah so can we stop playing him now? We have lo Celso to take that CAM spot and dele and Lamela (when fit) are also quality AMs who do their best work centrally. No need to piss them all off by giving game time to Eriksen who wants to play for teams who don't even want him.

Off you go then and good luck. Jose should just drop him from now on and focus on the guys who want to be here.

The last sentence is total bullshit. Don’t let door hit you on the way out you wee bollocks. For me he had ruined his legacy with the way he has been for almost 1 year now.

I know its very unrealistic but im hoping there is some type of deal to be had in Jan with Madrid and Bale. We give them Eriksen now and we loan Bale for 2 years with them covering a lot of the wages.

I know it wont happen as the football gods hate us and Eriksen is just waiting for a huge signing on bonus in the summer.
