I'm sure CE's hissy fit was more to do with the situation than with us. Madrid have been edging the poor lad for a long time, and just when it looks like he'll get his dream move they ignore him.

He had the opportunity to go to United and didn't. So that says something.

I wouldn't say I'm confident he'll sign a new deal, but there's definitely a chance.

Toby on the other hand is more than willing to give us his all but this will almost certainly be his final season.

Why should a professional football lose his focus in the first place, he clearly did last season? Genuine question.

Lots of people lose focus at their jobs, for lots of different reasons. For instance, I'm posting online at mine right now because I'm bored. At previous jobs, I was frustrated with how things were run and had difficulty focusing through the frustration with management jerking me around; at others, I was unqualified for the task (and miserable outside of work) and didn't perform particularly well as a result.

Players are only human, and its unfair and unrealistic to treat them as if they're completely disengaged from the rest of the world as soon as they walk on the field. Holding players at a standard no one can meet is a good way to make yourself miserable watching the team.

Finally, for what its worth, I don't think Eriksen was disengaged during competitive games last season. I don't have any proof (no one except Eriksen will), but I think he was just exhausted and just not playing well. His preseason performances could just as easily be attributed to a lack of confidence, which is why I linked the two in my original post.

Completely changed my mind on this now, before I wanted him out but if he will sign a new contract will be very happy

I think most people will feel the same, it doesn’t excuse his public statements about wanting a new challenge and basically telling Madrid to come get me. I don’t get how people are ok with this, if Eriksen let’s his contract run down and gets a free, like Toby it’s because it’s what both players want, and they want it to simply get the deal they want that rewards them the most. If every player did this the game woulda be in ruins and only the elite would benefit. I simply don’t get the benine response fans have to that.

What about his public statement, including the possibility of signing a new contract? This isn’t the first time he has ran his contract down btw.

I feel exactly the same. Eriksen has definitely been “side chicked” by Madrid. Let’s see if he has a change of heart now that the season is underway.

Would Levy be open to a more modest buy out clause to the club(s) of Eriksen’s choosing? In your opinion of course.

If this isn't the first time he's run his contract down, then how do you know he won't sign a new contract? And how do you hold him running his contract down against him when he obviously stuck around? Seems like you just want to be mad at him.

And I take his public statement at exactly face value. He would like a new challenge, but if one doesn't materialize, then he'd like to stick around at Spurs. If he comes out and says otherwise, then sure, that would suck, but he's also entitled to change his mind. But unfortunately, Madrid are the type of club to wind players up, and even more unfortunately, Eriksen is far from the only Spurs player who would jump to them if he had the chance. Only difference is he's one of a few (but growing) number of players who are good enough for it to be a possibility.

Oh yeah? He extended his Ajax contract by one year expressly so they would get a decent fee for him. And he still has a year to go for us atm.

I’m not mad at him, it’s his choice, but my estimation of him has decreased, and I don’t see how anyone can feel sorry for him. Or blame he club that he is in this situation, he is in it because he ants to be.

The difference the other players have done, bar Toby, is sign a new contract so that our club get something back on the investment we made.

If he’s still here in September after all TWs have closed I fully believe he’ll sign at least a one year extension (with a reasonable clause for RM/Barca) just like he has before.

Time to knuckle up and show your worth to these teams Christian.

The vibes are he is staying. Don’t know if that means he is signing a new contract. I cannot say I am 100% on it
This weirdly seems more likely with GLC in. I think only a move to Barcelona makes sense at this point. Other than that I don't see any better options than us on the continent anyway.

If he does this il be ok with it, if not I most certainly won’t.

Would love to think he will stay and commit. But my worry is if he won't be able to get his straight and stay focused and positive. Hate for it to be one of those situations where a player doesn't get his big dream move. At least Lo Celso is here now to challenge and take the burden off.

Hope he realises that this is the club to be at and we can achieve something big.

Would love to have the old Eriksen back, but kind of feel like it might just be best for everyone at this stage if he heads out before the European window.

If we could still get 45-50m for him, that's a big time RB or Alderweireld replacement next summer.

I never saw Lo Celso as an Eriksen replacement, from what I’ve seen and read about Lo Celso he spent a lot of last season at CM. I thought Lo Celso could play alongside Ndombele in midfield.

Whatever Poch’s plans are I hope we keep Eriksen.

Depends what type of midfield you're playing. Lo Celso and NDombele couldn't play alongside each other in a pivot, but they can in a three man midfield with Winks or Dier anchoring.

Lo Celso is extremely versatile, he can play deeper, as a number 10, or even coming in off the wing. Will be interesting to see what Pochettino prefers.

I think it will most be these two options.

Kane - Son
Alli
Lo Celso NDombele
Winks

OR

Son Kane Lucas
Lo Celso Ndombele
Winks
