Going by the Matt Law article? Some senior players are letting Ange down. My mind jumps straight to Maddison, Johnson, Werner and Bissouma. Potentially Son but Ange loves him.
Son is letting Ange down but it's not because of a lack of effort but lack of quality.

He's not as sharp as he used to be due to age and is ineffective when starting games. He would be a great option off the bench against tired legs.

Don't like saying this but I'm kind of glad he's out or a doubt for the weekend - might give moore a chance on the right as a sub for Kulu

I’m not ready to write Sonny off just yet.

I don’t want to go into a bashing Ange session as I still like the man but one of the issues I think we have is that the system he is very much rooted to doesn’t suit either Sonny or Johnson.

He may have had at one point but Sonny doesn’t have the skill set to be a one V one touch line winger . And Johnson is definitely not that sort of winger.

They would both be far more effective closer to the goal in a central position.

I find it mad that we have this system where so much depends on the two wise men and we just seem to want runners that let the whole thing down.

I haven't written Sonny off he's just better coming off the bench against tired legs. In the Arsenal game I counted 4 instances where prime Son would have made an impact. Timber got tight twice and Son just fell over really easily when prime Son would have rolled him or at least won a free kick. He got easily beaten to a ball over the top by Rice and in the 2nd half he was found on the edge of the box in space and his shot was easily blocked. That used to be Son's speciality.

I know it was only Tamworth and extra time but Son just looked more dynamic and he had a little more time.

The only system that would work with having 2 of Werner, Son and Johnson is a counter attacking one. In a posession based system 1 wide player has to be able to beat a player 1vs1. When teams sit deep, having son and Johnson closer to the goal wont matter because neither of them will pull defenders out of position. Every top team has at least 1 player that can beat a player 1vs1 and the best teams have 2. Liverpool have Salah, Diaz and Gakpo, Arsenal have Saka, Martinelli and Trossard and City have Doku and Savinho.

Under Poch we had prime Son but we also had a unique player in Dembele who would do it in midfield and that would open up space for Dele and Eriksen.

The only players we have in this profile are an injured Odobert and Moore so regardless of who the manager is we need to sign someone of this profile if we want to be challenging at the top end of the table.

Ange’s description:

“Brennan and Biss picked up knocks against Arsenal, Biss not too bad, Brennan probably a little bit more significant.”

We conceded a goal down the right last night, and surprise surprise, Kulusevski was nowhere to be seen in terms of tracking back, Porro was playing catch up as usual.

For all the flack Johnson gets for not tracking back, it’s quite ironic that our best player this season doesn’t get any for being guilty of the same thing.

Maybe it’s the fact that inverting the RB to basically becoming an advanced CM and telling our RW to stay forward for counters is the problem?

It’s funny how we had zero creativity on the wings under Poch and Dele, Son, Eriksen and Kane did perfectly fine without it. You don’t NEED creativity from the wings, you need a fluid system with an elite 10 like Eriksen (Kulusevski could fill this role) and a pair of full backs who do what full backs are supposed to do. Stretch the play on the wings. If Poch inverted Rose and Walker that team would’ve been nowhere near as good as it was.

Tactics play a big part in our problems, as much as some of you want to deny it. Replacing our current wingers isn’t going to solve any problems unless the tactics change. It’s really as simple as that.

Johnson must have top end speed but, by the eye test, doesn’t really have the explosive acceleration that’s probably more important

I like Brennan. Nice lad it seems and his numbers are good in terms of goals/assists. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Forest coming back in for him in the summer if they make Europe as their academy hasn't been too prolific with first team players in the past few decades. I appreciate that you don't "need" 4 x club trained players in your squad but it does weaken your options if you can't name a full 25. You'd think that with his profile he might attract interest from them. If we could get our money back and put it towards Dibbling then I'd be game.

Goes to show that on its own, pace is over rated - can barely think of him skinning a player in the way that (the supposedly slower)Bale did regularly

As others have said - acceleration probably more important

Look at Khusanov for City… he’s supposed to be rapid but from a standing start his initial acceleration looked terrible
