but i think anyone can see that maddison's influence across 90 minutes is far greater than johnson's.
Is it?

I think Maddison is slowly being dropped precisely because his influence is not great for his position.

Maddison lacks the physicality and defensive nous that often leaves us getting dominated in the midfield - and why most people would not have him in the line-up against strong teams.

To be fair, its 50-50 with him and Johnson right now on who starts, and who comes off the bench - so its not like either are tearing it up - and both could be doing better.

his all round play is a level below these.

I really like Brennan the person but he could easily win over a lot more of us by working harder. He can be really lazy and lacking in aggression.
I was thinking about this. Is it the way he plays?

I was thinking that he doesnt do enough defensive work, yet he made more tackles than salah and saka combined.

I was thinking that he doesnt do enough defensive work, yet he made more tackles than salah and saka combined.

He was also blamed for our weak defending down the right against Tamworth, but everyone glossed over the fact that Porro lost possession 45 fucking times. Against non league opposition.

Put a competent RB behind him like Spence, stop inverting the damn full backs and watch how both players flourish.

He has clearly been asked to do the job of an inside forward, attack the back post and score goals or cut back for assists. He was way more dynamic at Forest, but he’s playing the role given to him well.

Every player can improve aspects of their game, Johnson included. But he is just the player everyone focuses on now, so there’s a ton of confirmation bias going on here.

I can’t wait to see the narrative change when he reaches 20-25+ G/A this season. He’s already on 16, and we have a ton of games left to play.

What wins a football match? That’s the only answer that matters.
Many things win a football match and sometimes in here, it's almost as if we'd have been playing with ten men on the pitch if it wasn't for BJ.
Someone else would've probably scored instead.

Don't get me wrong, his goals are great but it's not the constant answer to what else is lacking from his game.
It's not even about slagging the kid off, you can't even mention what he lacks without some shouting "BUT HIS GOALS".

The only thing that wins games is goals. That’s an objective fact. Therefore making it the MOST important part of an attackers game. (not the only important aspect, but the most important)

The same argument can be said for those criticizing him, acting like all he does is get easy tap in goals and offers nothing else. This wildly exaggerated, and no one dares mention the other parts of his game that help the team.

At the end of the day it’s about supporting our players, not slagging them off. FFS I saw a comparison to Ndombele in here.

There are a few posters who have made very valid criticisms of his play, but acknowledging the fact that he is providing G/A to the team whilst having these flaws. There’s nothing wrong with a balanced opinion, this thread is just full of BS insults and it ruins the discourse.

It’s probably based on the things he doesn’t do in a match tbh.
But how does this correlates with Solanke not scoring more? Kulusevski is a completely different player than Johnson and played some minutes as right winger, yet Solanke didn't score any goals with him(hopefully that changes today)

We're far more likely to win games with a Luka Modric in our side than a Brennan Johnson because it takes a hell of a lot more to win games than what one man's goal output will tell you. Yes it takes goals, but it also takes skill, ingenuity, desire, determination, resilience, discipline, tactical awareness, bravery. It's much harder to put a number on those things hence why people think G/A numbers are some kid of smoking gun.

An early moment when he came on summed him up.
We won a throw in the arse half, Porro looked to take it quickly and instead of offering himself, he pulled up a sock and then walked across in front of Porro with his head down, not even looking.

There was no effort at all to make himself available and make something happen, he just hid in plain sight and slowed everything down.

His goals don't really mean anything when he's offering absolutely nothing else at all.
I may have run out of patience with him tonight, it's been coming but he's just not showing any effort at all.

He isn’t good enough. It is really simple.

If you want to be doing anything close to winning something, he shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team.

I’d be looking to cash in this summer but mark my words, he will still be here in 5 years.

Limited player, fair enough, but to jog around like that for 45 minutes in a NLD is unacceptable. We had Solanke, Dragusin and the kitchen sink up there towards the end, we give the ball to our winger and he goes back to the fucking CB.

I think he has a role within this squad.

But he cannot be starting games unless we have the right profile on the left. That means Son not starting.

Its not working.

He's looking like another poor bit of squad building.
