I don’t know know he’s still better than Elanga and CHO and has the stats to prove it

his all round play is a level below these.

I really like Brennan the person but he could easily win over a lot more of us by working harder. He can be really lazy and lacking in aggression.

I don’t think it’s within him to be aggressive and dominant, so it’s out despair we’ve expecting something different from a timid and highly ineffective performance knowing full well what we’re going to get tonight

just feel he would "do a job" with a mid table team who are compact, tight and are looking to sneak goals on the break or from second balls in set pieces.
He is never going to be good enough for a top 4 team. Especially one that expects high technical ability from its key players
But... he IS doing a job for a mid-table team! He's one of the reasons we're a mid-table team. He's not alone in that but that's the sad truth.

johnson is a big reason why solanke doesn't score more.
Considering that Solanke has 7 league goals this season and Brennan with 2 assists has the most assists to him, while the only goal he scored where Johnson wasn't playing as right winger was the goal against Man United that came from set piece immediately after Brennan was subbed I would say that this opinion is based on absolutely nothing

Seems like the lad needs a sports psychologist or something of the ilk.

He has good attributes on paper, his finishing being the one he actually utilises well on occasion, but seems petrified to take on a defender, or to dribble, or to use his pace to chase a ball, or to really offer any dynamic movement when we in an attacking phase.

He just seems to play with zero confidence or fight.
Is Ryan Sessegnon's available?

It’s probably based on the things he doesn’t do in a match tbh.

I think Johnson certainly has limitations, but he contributes a lot.

The criticism is too extreme imo and not balanced enough.

Fans latch on to players that frustrate them and then they can do no right.

The issue is that I could copy and paste a post from last year, which basically says ‘he is very good at a couple of things, needs to improve other areas of game’ and it would still be as relevant 12 months ago on.

He has got to develop more to his game. He is ineffective if there is not space to run into, and unless the rest of the team is on fire and gets the oppositions attention, he can far too easily nullified

We have seen snippets and I mean 2 or 3 occasions where he has chased back and put in some decent sliding tackles. But he doesn't do it regularly, and the same on the other side.

Big part of it is that Ange wants his wide players to stay high and press, and alot of the time they are by passed. Compare Newcastle for example, you regularly see Gordon chasing back and making tackles in his own box. Part of this is down to him but also the system and demands that howe deploys.

Basically we need to tweak the system which Ange has done recently in fairness but we also need better players!

I would much rather go with any of these combos than see Brennan starting.

Well, for starters, in the last 2 seasons he has 12 goals, and 12 assists in the league.

James Maddison - who does not get nearly the same criticism, has 12 goals and 13 assists in the league across the same time span.

sure, if you want to reduce their contribution entirely down to goals and assists go ahead but i think anyone can see that maddison's influence across 90 minutes is far greater than johnson's.

why not bring kulusevski into the argument while you're at it. his g + a is lower than both.
