Seems a bit of a fairweather type of player.

When things are going well, he's the kind of player who'll get in the right positions to chip in with the goals and assists.

But we're not functioning at all right now and we're not creating. This doesn't absolve him at all.

Looking at the attacking options, I'd say only Solanke is safe in terms of who should stay. We have a lot of 6-7/10 players.

Werner, Son, Johnson, Richarlison and Odobert makes up an attacking 3 that just isn't good enough.

Another player who should just do what their instincts tell them to, rather than do a fake, stop, wait an age and then play backwards.

Just take on your man or cross it. If you never do it, no one will fall for the fake.

He’s not a world beater but IMO he’s playing in the wrong position. The system does not suit him like so many others in the team. He should be playing off a front man rather than wide right.

Yep. Think it's a combination of various issues related to the player and the squad. In general, he shouldn't be a starter in most of our PL games.

He is good to very good in specific situations/scenarios, and really poor in others. He needs to develop the weaker parts of his game otherwise he will have 50% of games where he is completely ineffectual, which means he will be susceptible to being replaced.

His assist for Solanke against Liverpool was the first time he offered anything that didn’t involve space to move into

Commentator on Amazon referred to Johnson’s “pace” and “ability to take on his man.”

I’ve seen evidence of neither of these things in any of his 50 appearances.

Popped up with some nice finishes but he contributes very little elsewhere. Seems his instincts to arrive into the box are very good, but anything requiring finesse or aggression are nonexistent.

He looks confused when we are attacking at times. He literally jogs beside the guy in possession offering no outlet, no dragging a player away and creating space.

His defensive work rate is also atrocious, he passed the pall into Spence today and as they broke just jogged back behind MGW. Almost like, he’s not my man and went towards the RB area.

People have routinely quoted his top speed stat he reached last season as a counter to this but it’s pretty meaningless. Dier had a very high top speed, yet I doubt many would be rushing to say how quick he was. If you aren’t quick over the first 5/10/15 yards as a winger you aren’t quick in any way that’s going to be consistently useful.

I thought he was poor in the 2nd half. There was one point that he sauntered alongside Deki instead of bursting forward giving him an option, Basically just shadowed him.
Didn’t give us much at all

No team worth their salt would be relying on Johnson who’s so technically limited, passive taking on his opponent and laissez faire attitude to tracking back and helping his fullback.

He’s squad filler/cup rotation and impact sub at best and improvement is necessary.

They were both as shit as each other. We basically played with 9 men.

Hyperbolic is an understatement.

He had 3 very good chances and shots, Son had none.

He played a few good passes and flicks in the early stages of the game, again, Son had none including completely ignoring Johnson open in the box for what would’ve been a tap in.

Honestly, he seems like a nice kid, but I would sell relatively soon.

People will still see value given the goals he’s scored, but for me, he’ll never be a top player

I feel bad for saying it, but there’s just not enough to his game
