Did well with actually catching crosses into the box rather than punching away
This, a thousand times this. At the risk of sounding like old man yelling at cloud I hate that goalkeeping has evolved to punching the ball away all the time. Seeing Austin come for the ball and catch it was refreshing to see (for me at least).

I may be wrong, but I think we can’t register Kinsky for Europe until after the group stage, so Austin may get a couple of games there to prove himself a bit.
Yes, and we can only make three squad changes then. We already have Kinsky, Spence, Reguillon and Yang unregistered before bringing in anyone else. Big decisions for Ange on who to keep in, who to leave out and who to
add. With four keepers already in the squad, two of whom are club trained, I would have thought Kinsky was not nailed on. If he’s added it’s at the expense of Forster, but depending who else we bring in a goalkeeper upgrade might not be the top priority.

I wish more would do it as it stops the attack dead, rather than pushing/punching it away only for it to return.

I guess the problem is if you don't catch it cleanly then it causes more problems but I'm also an old man yelling at a cloud!

Recall in preseason Brandon got a lot of criticism for launching himself into the ruck for a big punch that fell kindly for an opponent to score. I actually thought it was a brave call and he got unlucky, but good to see that punching isn’t his default.

I want to preface this by saying I'm extremely happy for the lad and glad he did so well in tough circumstances, I hope he gets the move he wants/needs or stays as third keeper for many years to come.

That said, I've seen so many comments on social media saying how we shouldn't have signed Kinskey now and it's unfair, give Austin a chance etc. That attitude is exactly why we win fuck all.

Can't wait to see Vicario, Kinskey, Austin and Keeley battle it out going forward.

Feel great for the man, he should be very proud.

did seem weird that he was being called a 25 year old academy graduate - it was quite a while ago that he graduated!

Wonder what will happen now for his career - will he be an answer to a quiz question, or do a Martinez and get a move after a few games and win the golden gloves?

I agree, it was refreshing but all it takes is a drop (and he actually had one but scooped it up very well after it bounced) leading to a goal and the pressure would be on.

Wow he’s one very liked person.

Seems like a top bloke and he’s waited so patiently for his opportunity fair play.

Hope we move Forster on this summer and Austin remains our n.o3 but that performance will have surely got a few lower league scouts at least interested in signing him.

Its never a fair battle though is it? Look at arsenal, they had Leno, Cech and Martinez.

Cech left and they still fucked it up and spent £70-80m on a keeper that you can argue isn't as good as Martinez

Goalkeeper position is arguably the most difficult position to break into thr first team.

Few reasons can I clude experience at a certain level, so go with the older heads, bought players - already invested so have to go with them, training performance, base statistics and other areas.

Austin would do really well to grt on the phone to his agent and say, get me to a club whwre I can play first team football, he ain't getting any younger and now is the time to get match minutes, not sit as a third or fourth choice.

I really feel for Austin.

He had a really solid performance and now there's a new keeper that has been brought in to take more minutes that he perhaps earns.

Feel like I'm struggling to get excited about Kinsky as a result
I think people are getting carried away with his performance to be honest. I'm absolutely delighted for him and how he handled himself. However he didn't do anything special. The saves he made were straight forward. He handled himself well at corners but then so does Forster. His passing was fine if not at times risky. But you can't judge him much this one game. There's obviously a reason he hasn't been fancied by numerous managers until now. Kinsky will have been scouted for several months. I have to say as happy I am Austin did a job for us Saturday, I would not feel confident in him starting Wednesday. I think Forster starts assuming he's well by then and that is still the right call for now. Then Kinsky hopefully starting from Sunday. The big question is the NLD and whether we chance it because Sunday would not be a great measure but could maybe gauge his confidence level. Again no disrespect to Austin but would also not feel confident him starting the NLD either.

Absolutely, to be honest this move suggests to me that there's an element of doubt around Vicario if anything. I fully expect Kinsky to be number one in a couple of years time if all goes well.

I think it's more the fact that we rarely seem to be blessed with more than one very good player in any given position. We have a star emerge and then more often than not our thinking is "ok, let's find a player who is willing to play second fiddle", rather than buying another potential starter to challenge them.

If you're a star player at Spurs, whether it's Kane, Son, Romero etc, you're pretty much nailed on to start every game without question and regardless of form. It's no wonder so many of our players are complacent at times.

Why hasn’t he done that some years ago. 26 yrs old and makes his debut. Hes just taken the easy option and signed a 5 yr contract recently knowing full well he’s nowhere near the first team .
Hes even farther away now after Kinsey signing.
Strange, and Whiteman is no better.

People take jobs they like all the time. Could be the pay, the location, the benefits.

Being paid to train for Spurs, could be a much better gig than being paid to play in League One for some people.
