Depends. If, and I say this because I want to have faith in the big man, we have a few calamitous performances, then Ange will have no choice but to give Austin or Whiteman a go.
I disagree slightly, but Ange has an opportunity to play Austin in Europa, hopefully he takes it

Is he any good?
Think I saw him play pre-season was it and he seemed ok but anyone else who know more about our youth team who’s seen him play regularly what is your take?

Will he be a huge drop off from Forster or not so much?

This is exactly the opportunity that both he and Whiteman should be relishing, they’ve waited long enough.
One of them needs to step up now, they are both in their mid twenties and time is ticking for them, if they don’t then we really need to move them both on in the summer.

Brandon is 25 & Alfie is 26, I haven’t seen either of them play recently. I’d expect one of them to step up, but I don’t see either as a long term solution.

Youth goalies -Luca Gunter is really good as is Josh Keeley, but I think he’s on loan.

Are you lot seriously arguing that either keeper should be given a chance? Ages 26 ish. They are just not good enough.

Austin and Whiteman have barely over 50 first team games between them at the likes of Degerfors and Viborg. It's not a glowing résumé.
I guess there's the old adage that you've got to start somewhere, but Premier League seems a bit of a jump.
Another keeper will have to be on the Christmas wishlist.

I agree I'm not suggesting that they should go straight into the lineup. And of course there is a reason why they are third choice respectively. But given that they are part of the squad and they are training everyday the way that The manager wants them to. I wondering if the drop off is really that severe or if this is a case of us fans needlessly getting our knickers into a twist

Would you be able to link the comments as I've not been able to find them
Quick summary:

Neither Austin (~£15k) or Whiteman (~£5k) are paid a lot per week and are considered 'training' goalkeepers by the club. That is, they're good enough for team training exercises but will never really be considered good enough for the first team. Both 'keepers are happy because they earn, compared to the average bloke, mega money (north of £250k per year) to play football with their mates everyday. They earn more being training 'keepers than they would in the lower leagues - and at 25 and 26 years old, you'd think they will have realised they're not going to get the first team gig anywhere else, so a loan or move is pointless really.

whilst I agree with everything said, you do get the very late bloomers - emile martinez for example.

Some just need a chance on the right stage and some take that chance....

Its the given of said chance thats the challenge, and being that bright in the spotlight, it takes real balls to take that kind of chance in goal with 20K fans expectations on your shoulders stood right behind you :)

That's true of good players who simply haven't yet been given the playing time the need / deserve. However, they first need to do enough at training to convince the manager / coaches to give them a chance (and then bide their time for injuries in their position). If a player isn't able to evidence a certain level of ability on the training pitch, they won't magically become a much better player if thrown in for competitive matches.

My guess is that they're somewhere around starting League One / back-up Championship level, so I think you;re right about them earning more by sticking with us as "training" goalkeepers.
