Veliz is the type of signing I like us making, whether it works out or doesn't. He was looking an unpredictable but effective ball of energy before the injury. And the loan was obviously a mistake but let's see where we are a year from now.

Who have Saints got up front? I doubt he plays there but hope I’m wrong.
Last year they had Adam Armstrong and Brereton-Diaz if I recall. Although I think there were rumors they were selling Diaz (or maybe already have?)

Yeah and also I think it may be the case that Lankshear has impressed more than Véliz has disappointed. Can’t give minutes to everybody. We don’t really know about Véliz yet, but the Sevilla loan was awfully planned. He was never going to play there.

Just find it hard to believe they can’t believe they can do better than Véliz on loan as a first choice option. If he’s 1 of 2 striker options, or 1 of 3/4 in a two striker set up then that’s not so bad.

Brereton-Diaz was on loan, they signed him permanently on summer. They also have Onuachu on books, who spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor scoring 15 on 21, dunno wether he is on their plans? Didn't do much at Soton.

Brereton-Diaz has just signed for them permanently. He was on loan at Sheffield Utd last season

Saints had Adam Armstrong & Che Adams upfront, Adams has gone to Turkey now though

Not great if he’s one of those 3 options. Having said that, wouldn’t describe either of the 2 alternatives as top half level.

According to transfermarkt they’ve signed a 22 year old Brazilian striker named Juan arriving in January. They also still have Ross Stewart and Sekou Mara on their books? Stewart seems to have had a serious injury.

So Diaz, Armstrong, Onuachu, Mara, Stewart, Juan as options at the moment.

Surely selling a few?

Mara hardly set Championship on fire and Stewart has been practically injured for a season. Onuachu possibly not on plans.

Either he pulls up trees and comes back a better player or he opens up a potential swap for KWP next year if he does well. Good move, needs Premier League football.

Yeah I’d guess that they would be bringing him in as one of three but still I hope Levy structures the loan fee based on whether he plays or not and we have a recall option for January. Not massively convinced he will play.

Moretto was one of the first to report Veliz coming to us in the first place, so I think this is pretty reliable.

Véliz joining Espanyol (on loan, as confirmed in a subsequent tweet).
