A very close one this year with no clear winner..

I will start by giving a brief overview of the possitives and negitives of the ten candidates I believe to be contenders (loosely speaking).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Friedel

positives- Maybe an odd choice for some, but he has bought stability and calm to the backline. Has rarely put his foot wrong, and has been a key reason for this seasons success.

negitives- Has not really done anything spectacular, also has not been without his errors

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Walker

positives- Has been brilliant since breaking into the team, and seems to get better game by game. Scored the winner against Arsenal. Runs all day, and basically does the job of two players, alowing whoever is infront of him space to roam.

negitives- Early in the season he struggled defensively, and his delivery has been patchy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kaboul

positives- Has been brilliant in the air, and his speed and strenth has been invaluable. Very few players have gone past him this season.

negitives- Still prone to the odd mistake, or lapse of consentration. This goes for all our defenders this season

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

King

positives- Always gives an air of calm when he plays, still has not tasted defeat this season, rarley has he lost in the air, and always seems to be in control of the situation. Has actually played regularly as well.

negitives- Has made more mistakes then normal this season, also while he has played more often, he has still played little more then half the premiership games he could of been selected for.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

BAE

positives- Has been venturing forward a lot more often this season, and has made use of his great passing range. He still remains calm and composed defensively, and is never afraid to play the ball out of trouble

negitives- Errors have been present, and has been inconsistent this season. He was arguably better last season

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parker

positives- Has been key to our success, not only in his energy and defensive work, but also in his ability to play the ball. Always gives maximum energy

negitives- Might of burnt out a bit since his brilliant start.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Modric

positives- Has dictated tempo, played some brilliant passes and had some stunning individual preformances.

negitives- Has not been as central to our team as he was last season, has had a couple of off matches.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bale

positives- Has ripped teams to shreds at points, and now threatens all over the pitch. Has added a cleverness to his game that was not so clear last season. He has also linked well with Ade

negitives- had a inconsistent start, and generally can disapear in games.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

VdV

positives- has provided and scored many, and often has shown commitment for the team, even when played out of position.

negitives- no longer has he needed to pull us through games like this time last season, while not a negitive it does mean that he has become less of a direct influnce in play. Also has been inconsistent, and tends to drift in and out of games.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ade

positives- has changed the way we play, and has made a great difference to our team. Comes deep, goes out wide and has scored plenty of goals. With some brilliant link up play

negitives- has missed a hell of a lot of chances, sometimes has not been quick enough in releasing the ball and enjoys drifting offside.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

GDS

I honestly can't believe some people thought he would fail!!

So far this season the main man has been Scott Parker but as you rightly mentioned he needs a break to get over a few niggles.
Hopefully he can return refreshed and ready to lead us to glory in the second half of the season.

It's a tough one, various people have excelled at different parts of the season. Attacking-wise, Bale, VDV and Adebayor have all had hot streaks, and quiet patches. The defenders have all played well, and Kaboul has been evolving at rapid rate.

I think at the end of it all though, Parker turned our season around when he came into the side and just kept excelling, all the way into the Xmas period where his form dropped off a bit. Hopefully this little injury will give him time to recharge the batteries in time for the 2nd half of the season.

1st Parker
2nd Kaboul
3rd BAE - for playing almost every match at a real consistent level.

Friedel
King
Parker
Ade

They're the spine of our team. I feel a lot safer with Friedel in goal and King and Parker sort out a lot of tricky situations between them. Ade has missed alot, yes, but he brings so much more to the team than just goals. As far as I'm concerned, these players are the difference between Spurs this season and Spurs last season (not just because 3 of them are new, but because they've turned us into a different team).

Edit:

Voted King though. He is more than a player, he's just so iconic.

Has to be either Parker or King in my opinion, closely followed by VDV, Benny and Modric.

King makes such a huge difference because, in addition to being an incredible footballer, he also instructs the back four.

Parker has just been outstanding since he arrived. Yes he might have looked a bit tired recently, but over the first half of the season he has almost always been immense.

Benny has managed to cut out some of mad moments, and apart from being consistent, he's also becoming more of a pivotal part of our attacking play. His passing is getting better and better. He's also becoming more legendary by the day.

VDV was outstanding at the start of the season, and generally his performances have been extremely high quality, however there have been some games where he has not been able to make much of an impression on events - though this has often been due to being played out of position.

Modric, as we all know, is a superb midfielder, and most of the time when he plays well, the whole team plays well. However his away form is still up and down, and the fact that his "head wasn't right" for the very start of the season makes it difficult to be too gushing about him so far.

Voted Walker simply because he solved our RB crisis. Covers two positions at once. He's incredible.

And because I know not many others will vote for him. People don't like him here for some reason, it's a shame.

They've all been incredible but would have to chose Parker as the outstanding candidate

Parker will win this by a landslide because he has had such a positive effect on our side. His individual performances have definitely suffered his last 4 or 5 games (yes as many as that) because he's been putting in so much work. What an absolutely brilliant signing though.

Adebayor also has made a massive impact on our side. If he had put away more of is chances he'd probably be the obvious choice because his hold up play has been really good and we have played well off him.

Ledley again has been massively instrumental to our side. A little like Parker, some of his individual performances haven't been quite the Ledley standard (although still good) but the difference he makes to the confidence in the side is apparent for all to see.

Van Der Vaart quite clearly is in the top 3 or 4. Scored goals, linked the play and ran hard for the team. When he had his 6 goal run in the early part of the season it was the only thing keeping our heads above water.

No idea how a solid left back even gets in a top 5 over players that are winning you games. Baffled.

1 VDV
2 Lennon
3 Bale
4 Parker
5 Adebayor

Parker, Ledley, Kaboul, Fridel and Modric have been the most important this year.

Having said that, the width and pace of Bale and Lennon has all been key and of course Adebayor, VdV and Defoe scoring helps.

Then you have two full backs who like to support.

Ahhh can we go for everyone?!!?!

Has to be Parker though, the man is turning into a god for us. Even my West Ham mate still loves him....even in a Spurs shirt!

Could equally say that for Parker too who you've put at 4th in your list. BAE helps us win games by helping not to concede at the other end and also by providing assists (Adebayor vs. Liverpool, VDV vs. Swansea).

You're living in a silly world if you think Ekotto has a bigger effect on us winning football games over Scott Parker or any of our great forwards.

I think Ekotto has been fine and nothing spectacular, a few decent games and a few bad ones.

Voted for Parker.
If King play a decent amount of games for the rest of the season,
I could see him having his Giggsesque club Player of the Season award.

I live in a silly world then. I think Ekotto has had more good games this season than Parker. That is nothing against Parker his influence has been huge and everyone else has stepped up a gear in terms of effort when he is there, but I think individually Ekotto has been a better, more consistent performer.

No player has been consistently brilliant, all have had off days as you would expect.
Friedel has been reliable, Benny brilliant at times especially in providing width when Bale goes inside.
Kaboul getting stronger and more reliable. Parker has a limited range of skills but has certainly been important to the team.
Van der Vaart has been increasingly important. Walker still a work in progress
But Modric although a little off lately has been the creative heart of the team, linking defence and attack and on occasions providing incisive passes with an ease that indicates true class.
Can´t understand how some people don´t even have him in their top five.
