Player/Manager Statues - Who would you choose?

We all hate Arsenal.....after all, they stink.....but if I'm totally honest with myself, their recent idea to have 3 statues built around the scabby Emirates was an inspired one and I'm a big fan of Spurs replicating this idea once our new ground is completed.

The goons opted for

a playing legend of old in Tony Adams (big nosed dirt bag)
a playing legend of more recent times in Thierry Henry (french punk)
a managing legend in Herbert Chapman (fat bloke)

So, following this format, which 3 would you pick to be dotted around the *NEW* White Hart Lane, whenever that may be......here are my choices. I think 2 are kind obvious but the legend of old may throw up a few different ideas......

a playing legend of old - Glenn Hoddle (Teddy Sheringham? Danny Blanchflower?)
a playing legend of recent times - Ledley King (I refuse to accept anyone else here)
a managing legend of old - Bill Nicholson (well duh)

Tough to argue with any of them really. The manager goes without question, and honestly I would find it difficult to choose any other players than those two.

Possibly Dave Mackay as player of old? Gary Mabbutt (for his character, rather than ability)?

Recently though no one has been at the club for the length of time, and played to as high a standard as Ledley.

Yea I'd go with these choices, I like Hoddle in their as he's the type of player that I think sums up what Tottenham have always been about with flair and skill. Also a fairly local guy too.

But could we really just steal their idea????

a massive bronze statue of ledley's knee... but abstract in design. Given a jaw and teeth like pac man and in its open mouth is the No.26..

publically we'll say it represents his ability and performances in the No.26 shirt despite the persistent attempts of his knees to prevent him.
Privately we'll all know it's him, despite his bad knees, destroying John Terry. nom nom nom

Hoddle or Blanchflower as a player of old.
More recent player I'd go for Mabbutt. Bit weird having one of Ledders while he's still playing, would definitely pick him once he retires though.
And obviously Bill Nick for the manager.

Blanchfower, Greaves and Nicholson. having a player still playing like Arsenal did is a bit stupid really, a statue is something really to make well after a players retirement.

Other possible statue options are Hoddle and Mackay and for non footballing reasons Walter Tull. White for both footballing reasons and not. As well as Arthur Rowe, for creating Tottenham Hotspur as we know today

After all their system was actually, famous captain, fomous manager and top scorer. = Blanchfower, Greaves and Nicholson

True, I hate the idea of them saying we stole it but we could easily argue back that it's not as if Arsenal invented the idea of having statues outside a football ground.

In all honesty, I'd be happy with just 2, one of Bill Nick for when the ground opens and then once he retires, one of Ledley.

I don't care what anyone says, he's one of the best players the club has ever had, he's been incredibly loyal and despite his injuries, we all know that he's arguably one of the best CB's ever to play the game and I just want to see him honored and appreciated by the club in the best possible way.

I'd chose a colossal bronze Berbatov - kinda stepping on the stadium as he reaches upwards with a gigantic hand, aspiring towards the stars.

Nicholson is obviously the manager. Player of modern times I'd say would have to be King.

Player of old is the hardest. Do you go for Perryman, our most appeared player and captain, do you go for Greaves, arguably the greatest striker of all time, do you go for Blanchflower, the double winning captain, or do you go for Glenn Hoddle, our most gifted player and a Spurs boy from start to finish who gave us entire peak of career, and probably the most talented footballer ever produced within these shores.

I'm going to go for Hoddle. Spurs are about genius on the football pitch, and there's no bigger genius than this man.

I agree with the OP's suggestions, the only tricky one is the player of old....tough call between Hoddle and Blanchflower....

I'd say Spurs are about genius with a hint of self destructing mental. Hoddle is the perfect fit.

As i said in the other thread. i think in this day and age we should look to go one better. Holographic images at points around the stadium would be a fantastic futuristic thing to do. You could then change the holograms as and when. The Gorillaz can do it on tour so i dont see why this cannot be done.

Plus the pikeys couldnt knick them. win win!

Gazza holding a gun.

King and Bill Nic are pretty much given. Then there's a whole bunch of legends to consider. Hoddle, Ossie, Jennings, Blanchflower, Greaves, Mackay, Jenas.

We should go one better than Arsenal and build smaller statues, but a dream team 11, with Bill Nick overlooking as manager of course.
