Exactly. He was excellent against us when we played them away. Yet now all of a sudden he’s apparently shit because he had a poor game against Arsenal. The whole Southampton team lookwe disinterested. He’s getting criticised for his part in Arsenal’s 1st goal yet McCarthy had ample time to clear the ball only to royally screw it up. That’s on the keeper, not who passed him the ball.
Overruning our non existant midfield is not an achievement. It just shows how far we have fallen.

Still not sold on this guy. When we took Scott Parker off of a relegated West Ham, we knew we were getting a really good DM. I just can't say I feel the same about this guy.

Yeah, how about taking Rice off a relegated West Ham instead?

He already was playing injured, about to be replaced when he made that bad pass. Some are getting worked up seeing that.
Lessons are already learnt in Sissoko fiasco - same way some Spurs fans were moaning that Newcastle fans are moaning about Sissoko - saying he will be a flop...how did that turn out now ???

We got to give him fair opportunity & assess if we buy him...not getting worked up on comments from fans of a team he is about to leave

One underhit pass and poor old Pierre-Emile has gone from the missing piece in our puzzle to a massive pile of piss and shit and puke with cum in it.

I haven't even seen it tbh. I've never been convinced since we were first linked, nor do I think he will be what we need in order to get the best out of N'Dombele.

There was lots of doubt about him before the Arsenal match to be fair. Read through the early pages of this thread and you'll see plenty of it.

I personally feel that any DM at all would improve us given that it's an absolutely crucial position and we've not got a single fucking senior member of the squad who plays it. So in that sense, Hojbjerg would almost certainly be an improvement. But I'm not convinced that he's good enough to have us competing with the clubs at the top again. Unfortunately the reality is that we probably just aren't in a position to bring in top players right now.

a midfield that considered of Ndombele and Sissoko and then Lo Celso and Sissoko... our two best combinations.
I mean Lo Celso and Sissoko might be the future. But those are not our two best combos, not before the break anyway. Simply not disciplined enough.

For what its worth we played southampton 4 times this season, and never with the same midfield

First we won 2-1 CM (h) = Winks-Ndombele
We managed to win with 10 mins, Hojbjerg was alright.

We lost 1-0 (a) CM = Ndombele - Eriksen
I'm not joking Sissoko played but not in the centre but as part of a front 3

1-1 FA cup (a) - Winks -Fernandes (I'm serious!)

3-2 (h) Tottenham - Winks Ndombele.

I guess when we lost 1-0 Sissoko was playing so you meant that one, I don't know where you found the Lo Celso - Sissoko combination.

I personally don't remember him having this super amazing game against us ever. Which is fair, he is a DCM it's hard to stand out in that position. But I think its being inflated.

Reminds me of when Bentaleb's shite pass against United resulted in nearly everyone despising him.

Gross exaggeration. He had more than enough by way of detractors long before then, probably owing to the fact that he was just another limited CM to don our shirt.

only thing I’d say to this, is how impressive was Eriksen when he had 12 months left on his contract for example? How impressive is anyone when they get to this juncture?
I’m neither pro or against this signing but judging one match after he’s been stripped of the captaincy with 12 months to go on his contract in the middle of global pandemic isnt going to tell you anything.
Which is why i clearly said “Granted it’s only one game”

Ironically, Bentaleb was another player who had to play in a CM2 with Ryan Mason, and neither of them had an ounce of defensive awareness. We needed a DM way back then and we're in the same boat now.

That's why we signed Wanyama

It was indeed and we also moved Dier into midfield before that. I think with our options now we really should be playing 3 in CM for stability but unfortunately Mourinho seems besotted with Dele which always ends up with 2 in CM, usually chasing shadows and struggling to get any sort of grip on a game.

This guy is a journo at FootMercato, I don't think they're too bad? Edit: I think they're not great actually

Info: Tottenham is working on the track leading to midfielder Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg (Southampton). Discussions between Spurs and its representative, Pini Zahavi, have already started.

Dele can play in a midfield three though. I remember in his first season, he sometimes was dropped back along side Dier, and did very well.. He is also good at ghosting in from the wide left, so could potentially play up there in the forward three.

In all honesty, if Dele is going to improve, he needs to be flexible in the way he was when he came to us. Not be fixated with one position.
