Tottenham look at Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a cut-price signing

Tottenham Hotspur are casting a net high and wide in a search for cut-price signings. The Luka Modric saga is continuing meaning that Andre Villas Boas doesn't have that money to spend yet, original targets are being replaced by cheaper alternatives and that's how Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been brought into the picture.

Le 10 Sport in France say that Spurs are targeting the player as a cheaper alternative to Loic Remy who got cold feet about a proposed moved to Spurs earlier in the summer. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a 23 year old forward who currently plays for Saint-Étienne in Ligue 1.

The Gabon international was born in France and spent his youth career with AC Milan before he made the permament move to Saint-Étienne after loan spells with Dijon, Monaco and Lille. He has a good scoring record with his current club and it will be that which has caught Tottenham's eye.

Le 10 say that Saint-Étienne aren't keen to sell the player this summer, he's only been with them for just over 18 months, but that a 'persuasive' offer from Tottenham would tempt them to change their mind. It's unlikely a bid would need to get into double figures and the club could bring him in without having to worry about their wage structure.

Don't know much about him, I'm sure that there is someone on here that could enlighten us.

It would be a bugger to find a song for him though. ;)

wow.

I mentioned this guy on here as an alternative to Remy, and lo and behold we have a link.

Seriously, I really really like him. Lots of pace, great dribbler, big enough to play alone, and will come cheap.

I'm glad we're also looking at realistic targets. I agree that he's a dead ringer for Neymar.

Where would this fella be in the pecking order? number 2 of 3? 3rd choice? I know absolutley nothing about him so I'm curious.

The only problem I could foresee is if we have completed Adebayor, would we really be sensible to add another African who was likely to be away at the ANC at the same time. Thus leaving us with only Harry Kane who AV has already said will be 3rd choice striker.

Alternative to Remy = cover on the right so he is more likely to play in lennon's position. I don't know much else about him but he seems like the type of player we should be buying ( Ba,Cisse and Cabaye to Newcastle as examples of how its done within a low budget )

We just have to be willing to take the risk but he's exactly what we need for RW cover.

I came away impressed by him at the Olympics. He was constantly charging at defenders similar to how Bale does.

He's actually played LW, RW, and as a CF. He's tall, he's got some great pace, and the aforementioned positional versatility is a big bonus.

He wouldn't be nearly as expensive as Remy, and while he's not quite the talent Remy is, if it's all about serving a purpose of building depth with youth and upside, he fits the bill very well. He's the type of talent that DL loves; he's young, he's inexpensive, and he could very well prove to be worth a hell of a lot more after some developing.

This guy is good. Really shone in the ACON and played well in the olympics too by all accounts.

There is no way he and Adebayor would both go to ACN this season, as they will play against each other in the last round of qualification

What kind of numbers are we looking at for his transfer? Does he have a release clause?

The first paragraph is sheer supposition, but left-field enough to possibly have legs, I guess. Here's the actual le 10 Sport article in glorious GoogleTranslate.

Certainly, players of AS Saint-Etienne currently attracting envy. Kurt also Zouma, tracked by several English clubs including QPR, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also coveted.

According to our information, it is the object of courtship Tottenham. The London club still looking for a reinforcement offensive able to play on the right wing or in the center.Aubameyang is on the "short list" of Spurs, especially as the London club believes that it will be cheaper than Loïc Rémy.

The ASSE does not sell

However, leaders Etienne, who were questioned by Tottenham about Aubameyang have already indicated that he was out of the question to leave their attacker. If they absolutely want the player, the Spurs will have to be very persuasive!
