I know it’s often said we don’t talk to the player if we have any suggestion that the club is not open to selling but honestly thought we’d have agreed with the player weeks ago and were spending all this time negotiating the price and structure with Wolves. I suspect if/when things become more serious then Wolves will toughen up their stance.

Yea I don't see a quick resolution with Wolves on the proviso we find a resolution with Neto/Mendes.

Yikes. Agree that’s worrisome. Hopefully we’re at least realistic on what the price from Wolves is.

I guess only silver lining could be if Mendes is more plugged into the inner workings at Wolves so we have better insight than normal into what it will actually take to get done.

Fingers crossed then. I’m usually pretty up beat, but feel like time is running out a bit, like you say only two weeks till the start of the season and we’ve not really strengthened the first team (with senior players) at all.

Then try not to think of it as two weeks to the start of the season think of it as only the first day back from our round the world tour.

I know WLB has said we may see movement in the next week or so, so I’ll hold judgement for now - but if we’re in the same boat next week, then we’re up the creek ( IMO)

There’s literally no more excuses, everyone is back in now.
If there’s no movement/noises this week, then I’d seriously be concerned.

Yeah no contract situation to exploit and it would seem to me that he would have a few options on the table if the price became reasonable. Wolves have also sold Kilman so I doubt they are desperate for funds. Like Eze, this only gets done if we offer market value or higher. There’s a few instances where Levy has coughed up market value for sure but extremely rare (if ever) that he forks out over that to get a managers preferred target. In recent years the only example I can think of is Sissoko. The Ndombele deal was pricy but I think most on here thought that was probably his perceived market value at that time, similarly with Romero. Richarlison another.

I can see Wolves quoting 65m with a fair chunk up front and us baúlking at that. I reckon it ends up with us going after a different winger who’s cheaper in 2/3 weeks or so.

Not necessarily, lots of things will be discussed such as pay structure. Guaranteed weekly pay plus bonus structure such as goals scored, if we make the champions league etc.
Also we don't know if he or Mendes are asking for clauses to added to the contract
The fact that Mendes is involved made me always think that this deal would take longer.

That and many other things transfers rarely take hours or days to do anymore. Takes weeks and months now

Maybe, or maybe he's just said I've had a long season with the Euro's. I'm really keen, but want to completely switch off and enjoy the break with my family before discussing it....... Or Maybe Mendes is moving his chess pieces around first, or even just making us wait in order to extract the best deal he can. Etc etc.

I mean there could be numerous reasons as to why it's not happened yet.
