Things gathering pace nicely. But! Let’s not get too carried away yet, as anything could happen.
Hope Neto doesn’t do that too quickly, his hamstring might go!

(Not sure if anyone knows but he has previous injury concerns)

Miles off being competitive? We finished 2 points off the CL last season. It was our first year in a completely new system, we were unlucky as hell with injuries, and we’ve got 3 players over 28 in our first team squad and about 15 24 and under.

It’s also utterly ridiculous to pretend that there will be no further additions to the squad - we know there will be.

So you can say business should be done earlier, or that we will still have some gaps to fill after this summer, that’s fine. But this relentless desire to be as miserable as possible and make claims like we are miles off being competitive are just boring to listen to at this point.
What is your definition of seriously competitive? For me it’s challenging for silverware by getting to finals and semi finals. And being in the mix for the league in the final few weeks. Last season was not a disaster by any means especially given the mitigating circumstances, but we were not seriously competitive.

The underlying numbers last season suggests we got away with it defensively, and we still conceded a bucket load of goals. I’m not anti Ange just being realistic about the time frame. We are a season behind what most people seem to be predicting on here. That only starts to accelerate with 3 more first team signings this window.

Yes the squad is better than last season. Gray has come in. Full seasons for Werner and Dragusin, youth are coming through. However given how much more intense next season is going to be games wise with the squad as it is at the moment we are standing still at best compared to last season. In an Ange system if we stop pressing, the wheels can come off very quickly.

Can't get excited until he's holding up the shirt.

Especially when Mendes is involved and Liverpool/Arsenal will be sniffing around.

I agree with every word here, but just on this bit
"it is utterly ridiculous to suggest there will be no further additions to the squad"
I wouldn't bet your house on it 😊

I think getting Neto is a game changer. Johnson has yet to boss a game and can be very quiet for long periods of a match. I think Neto offers more, will retain possession better and be more of a threat throughout

This is true, but it’s also focusing on the negatives. Vicario, Porro, VDV, Dragusin and Udogie are all young and were in their first full PL season last year (or even less ) so should improve. We were unlucky with injuries. We were an average of 11 penalties worse off than the other teams in the top 7. Our attack underperformed its underlying metrics. And finally, there is zero reason to believe our business is done for the summer, so complaining about where we stand now is pointless. Even if we only bring in 2 first teamers, add those to the list of reasons to be optimistic above and I stand by saying we are ‘miles off’ is hyperbole

Got a feeling we're pushing for this one now instead of Eze and that might be all we sign. Hope we get one more attacker and left back though. Trouble is the later into the window we get the worse the options will become.

If we get Neto and not Eze, can see us going for Chiesa

Teamnewsandtix are really good with Arsenal news, sort of their Paul O'Keefe. Think we need to get this over the line quickly or I can see them going for him as they've been after a Williams-type winger for a while and have been linked with Neto for 2/3 seasons now pretty consistently.

It’s probably the reason we can’t just ‘get it over the line quickly’.

He's waiting to see if Arsenal make a move first.

That explains the whole out of our hands stuff.

Not sure I want a player who doesnt want us as his first choice but I get this is the way players think.
