He claimed we wouldn't be willing to pay the agent fees, I replied to that. I don't really get the rest of your post.

His whole argument was disingenuous. He, like many, is assuming agent fees were the cause. More likely Chelsea beat us because they offered Wolves a better deal, and agent fees played a miniscule part, but everyone wants to blame the "big bad" Mendes. It's laughable.

The man does hundreds of deals with all manner of clubs, why is it us who have problems?
If we really did boycott his players do you realise how much our market would shrink? It's crazy
For those that are interested in why some clubs and fans have issues with mended there a good article about third-party ownership etc

If the winger is going to be direct and get past opponents regularly out wide in the PL the explosive acceleration is a must imo, all the best wingers in the PL have that ability.

The only way Kubo adapts to the PL role wise is by playing as an inside forward imo, playing more in the half spaces and using his nimble feet and touch to navigate those areas. He simply won’t be able to fulfil the role Ange wants out wide imo.

Major concerns about his lack of strength and think he would struggle in the PL though, despite his talent. He will get eaten up by defenders and lose the ball too easily I fear.
I don't think that's been our issue though.

I think Johnson, Deki, Son, etc all have trouble against low blocks because they don't have the nimbleness and trickery to do players.

Salah is a great example of how that close control, quick feet and nimbleness can break down tough defences.

Johnson is our direct winger who goes on the outside. Just needs more aggression to his game.

I think we need a winger who retains the ball and this desire for a 1v1 winger who goes on the inside, outside, is explosive, quick, scores a lot etc etc is pie in the sky.

We need creativity and ball retention just as much as explosive players.

In fact this is my gripe with modern scouting. It's all about expolosiveness and athleticism and less about technical qualities.

Weren’t we linked with Yeremy Pino a couple of years ago? Or did I dream that.
Tentative links I believe perhaps because of his agency but has only just come back from a cruciate so a fair bit of risk attached to him.

Yes to both. You dreamed it and then it duly became reality. What power you hold in your subconscious. Please don't dream of Matty Cash tonight.

It was only a week ago that West Ham pulled out of a deal due to the agent fees.
Agreement was reached between both clubs and the player wanted the move but the agents demands led to the deal falling apart.

So there's plenty of evidence of the greed of some agents, you just have to see what some clubs spend on them.

Like Haaland, that was as much in fees as it was in transfer fee.

I imagine that this idea that Mendes somehow went behind our back is a little fanciful.
If he's as money orientated as people suggest surely once he knew what Chelsea were offering he would have come back to us and offered us the chance to better it? That's how you drive the price up. It looks like we were the ones that blinked first.

A guy I went to uni with was the son of a famous Prem player. On graduating he became an agent.

I remember him telling me about the frustrations with deals as the price sometimes wasn’t the issue, but agents would start asking for silly things like buying houses for relatives.

I’ve little doubt that an agent like Mendes drives buying and selling clubs nuts with his demands.

I've had it from the horse's mouth that things like children's private school fees, relatives relocations and so on have been requested and written in to contracts.

Who knows exactly what happened, but we've heard from at least two sources that we had a meeting on Thursday, from which it seeming we had more time. Early-ish the next day, Neto to Chelsea is done.

From here, we definitely seem to have been used as some sort of backup option in one way pr another.

If we got played, we have to take responsibility for that, but I have no reason to believe we had any idea of what was coming.

Chelsea have a squad of 56 players. How are they allowed that and how can they afford that! Ridiculous
They should introduce a rule to stop this. Not sure how it would work, but having a monopoly on players shouldn't be allowed.

They're going to have problems down the line shifting these players though that's a certainty.

There are rules. Squad limits. Home grown quotas etc. Chelsea just don't give. Afk about them

And when it happens I will laugh hysterically. It really is so distasteful.

I look at the olympics, and the fantastic sportsmanship and attitude on display. It’s been fantastic. Chelsea are the opposite
