Fulham are leading the race to sign Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp on a season-long loan – but a deal may hinge on whether they are promoted.

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho has reluctantly agreed to let Skipp leave on loan and the 19-year-old is also attracting interest from Premier League duo Southampton and Burnley, as well as Reading and Nottingham Forest.

Fulham boss Scott Parker knows Skipp from his time as a youth coach at Spurs and the Cottagers are currently frontrunners, although the move is less likely if they win the play-offs.

Skipp, who signed a new four-year Spurs contract last week, wants to play regular first-team football at holding midfield and knows he is more likely to do so at a leading Championship club than in the top flight.

The England Under-21 international, who has played just 105 minutes this season, has been encouraged by the success of Chelsea pair Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham, who spent a season on loan in the second tier before becoming Premier League and England regulars this term.

I think Fulham will win the playoffs so will they be able to promise him regular football if they come up? If they can it’d be a great move for him.

Can't imagine too many PL clubs that would be desperate enough to take a 6 month loan (not in the summer anyway). For the sake of continuity they'd surely want a full year commitment.

Most Championship clubs would take him in a heartbeat though.

Think I saw Jose say they would look for a 6 month loan ideally.

I wouldn’t mind him getting a chance here for the first half of the season with the view of loaning him out for the second half, like KWP’s, as I think Skipp of all players will definitely get chances to prove himself in the early rounds of the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, and UEL qualifying / group stages throughout the first half of the season as we manage squad rotation across 4 competitions. It would be nice for Jose to be able to field the likes of Skipp, Parrott, White, Fagan-Walcott, etc in a Thursday night away match in Kazakhstan when a position in the knockoff stages is secured.

In just the UEL group stages United gave their first starts to Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams, James Garner, Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong, Ethan Laird, Dylan Levitt, and Di’Shon Bernard.

Greenwood and Williams of course kicked on to become regulars for the first team, which I think we could potentially see with Skipp, Parrott, and White. While I do think a loan move could do them good, there is a decent argument that our highest rated youngsters should get a chance to breakthrough this season where we are competing in the UEL instead of the UCL has some merit. It was a good thing we didn’t loan out Tanganga last season..

As for Skipp and Fulham, Harrison Reed [on loan from Southampton] has been their #6 this season. I’ve seen some rumors about him staying at Fulham if they come up, which would make sense why we wouldn’t loan them Skipp. But certainly, if they stay down, I could see them asking Skipp to be their Reed replacement.

Why they would not take skipp for loan if they come up to premier league?
Probably aren't convinced he's ready to be a regular starter in a PL side. They're backed by a free-spending billionaire so might think they can do better if they come up.

Pretty sure it’d have to be a full season I don’t think you can loan to another pl club until January under the current rules

If he is loaned out for the entire season, we need to include a recall clause which can be activated in January if he does not get game time.

Premier League loan for 12 months with a recall option at 6 months if he hasn't featured for "x" amount of minutes??? Is that a thing?

Don’t think you can recall players in jan from pl clubs anymore unless both clubs agree

wouldn't it be good to keep him around the squad?

If we bring in Hojbjerg we still need someone to be able to play the games he can't, or if he gets injured.
Other wise its Winks or Sissoko again...

If hojberg leaves, Southampton certainly needs a midfielder ... Skipp might fit that role
No way they would sign a loan deal without possibility of making it permanent. Particularly as they already have a young holding midfielder coming through in Smallbone.

You would get the same thing with a six-month loan which can be extended if both parties agree. We cannot afford letting Skipp waste an entire season like Clark did at Leeds/QPR.

I’m pretty sure you can’t loan to pl clubs for 6 months under the current rules it has to be the full season , obviously if you loan them out in January it’s 6 months before some smart arse pops up

Rather a 6 month championship loan for some game time and development. Then bring him back for the 2nd half of the season to provide some steel and cover for Hojbjerg.
