You are right, so that means many of them have played far fewer than what is basically the minimum we could have played.......

I honestly think people are making a far bigger deal of this than it is. If we'd have got to a cup final we'd have played far more games and still had games to play. I know it's Australia but it's not like they are flying Easyjet. It's basically 10 hours in an admittedly compact 5 star hotel suite with every care and comfort catered for. Just being on the plane there and back would be a first class getaway for a lot of people.

Players are so used to long distance travel for international matches they will take this in their stride and such is the size of the squad that I doubt many will play more than 45 minutes, just treat it as a state visit by Ange to his homeland.

I'm not a massive fan of it or even the pre-season tours in general but I understand it. There are plenty of Spurs fans all over the planet who will never get a chance to watch us in person and it's good to reward interest and investment in the club.

I also feel like it's no accident that we've chosen Australia while Ange is manager. It's possible that this is seen as a squad building exercise and also manager bonding. The fact is the board see Ange as a long term fit, so it will be nice for the players to experience his home country and bond on the long, luxurious flights.

They can also plan their summer holiday in Australia, south east Asia, the Pacific island etc and make the most of it. Assuming they don't have international duty of course

I would guess this is much more a commercial exercise than any team-building exercise - given the amount of turnover we expect this summer.

A combination of the club building its brand, and maybe even AIA expending its reach into Australia.

Regardless of whether or not they are flying in absolute luxury of course traveling is tiring. This is not a competitive game though, and they aren't likely to have to play 90+minutes at a high intensity. They'll play 60 minutes tops in what is nothing more than an exhibition match. It's very very different.

They won't be travelling nearly as far when they play in Europe. So it seems like it will be used.

I've had the good fortune to make ultra-long trips from US to Johannesburg in business class (on the client's dime, not mine!) and can attest to the fact that there is a MASSIVE difference between coach and business class. One was about 20 hours (DC to Jburg with about a 90 minute layover in Dakar) and the other was non-stop 17 hours from Atlanta. Although there was a little bit of jet lag, the ability to get a complete good night's sleep in a fully reclining seat made all the difference on how I felt at the final destination - basically, ready to get to work right away. Completely different from taking a 5-hour redeye from the west coast to the east coast in coach.

And, after seeing what the interior of that plane looks like, I can't imagine they'd be fussed at all.

In terms of club exposure - which is what this is all about, I’m here in Aus and plenty about Spurs and Ange on the tv / news etc leading up to the game.

Haven’t seen a single thing about Newcastle yet .

Finally relented and am going to get tickets and go along. Looks almost sold out so I’ll be sitting in level 4 of the MCG as that’s all that’s left.

That means there will be close to 100,000 at the game.
