My first game was the same season, home to Wimbledon. It did not go well.

Dad and I only went to that one because my birthday present was really to see us vs Man City, which was rained off. We did go see the City game when it was rescheduled but that was months later, we won that one.
The Wimbledon game was my 2nd match with my dad and friend, we had to wait until the Norwich game on Easter Monday for my first win.

Still all magical though and has kept me transfixed ever since.

Love finding highlights of these matches on YouTube

Rebrov was far too good for us. You could see every game that he was about 5 steps ahead of everyone else. And then Hoddle did that weird thing where he marginalises good players.

Used to watch him warming up before KO. Couldn’t hit a fucking barn door and took that form into the games

Useless without his bodyguard Shevchenko

I'd been a lot with my dad beforehand, but 97/98 was my first season ticket. I'd written a letter to Teddy Sheridanham with my best friend that summer begging him not to leave us (printed on a poster of Teddy) but the **** had no heart and left anyway. The entire season was lit up by Ginola (I actually think he was better that season than the next when he won POTY) and amidst a relegation battle we still managed to have some exceptional moments. I was also at that Wimbledon match, will never forget the imagine of Les, Ginola and Klinsmann arm in arm walking together rejoicing. Ah the abuse we all gave soon to be Spurs Ben Thatcher as he was dismissed for a couple of horror tackles in the space of about 6 seconds. How on earth did we sign that bastard?

I also went to the match at Selhurt Park v Palace where we won 2-1 to secure our safety, I think Anderton came back that day having been injured all season (of course) and put on an absolute masterclass. Ruel Who?

I enjoyed that season more than any of the following 3 under mainly George Graham, bar a few great moments from Ginola in the FA Cup in 98/99, and then the Hoddle years came which wasn't so much a false dawn as it was a flicker of a helicopter light in the dark of night.

Then a short while later, BMJ... and since then it's been mostly enjoyable supporting this club and increasingly so in my opinion as the years wear on.

We are so close...

Over a week into the transfer window, here's a look back onto a glorious January signing:
TOTTENHAM – Ricardo Rocha
The story of Tottenham’s 2006/07 season should be part of the national curriculum. From finishing fifth in the Premier League to reaching two quarter-finals and one semi-final, there was also a Paul Robinson goal, only the fifth ever shared Player of the Month award, and Edgar Davids playing alongside Andy Barcham and Dorian Dervite in a League Cup round-of-16 tie.

Just to cement its legacy, Ricardo Rocha joined for £3.2m plus two friendlies between Tottenham and Benfica, with the Portuguese club keeping all the gate receipts. John’s brother would start just 16 games across three seasons.

His goal ratio in the first season was not bad at all. Great goals v Ipswich , Newcastle and west ham in the cup. Also scored v arsenal

Decent little player

From the link I stumbled upon another January gem.

He was almost 32 when he signed. Hands down the weirdest of all weird transfers in the Ramos/Comolli era.

The Brazilian national team is really odd; they seem to give every man and his dog a cap

Anybody remember Kevin Scott a CB we brought from Newcastle in 1994.

One of the slowest CBs I have ever seen and any ball played behind our back line and he was done.

He stayed with us for a good few years but only playing 18 times and scoring one goal.

I remember watching something on tv showing Rebrov’s goals the season before we signed him. Almost all of them were stunning. He scored the most (I think) in Europe that season and I remember thinking if only we could have someone like that. Then amazingly we signed him and I immediately became erect. I believe he was a step ahead of most of our players and his overall form suffered because of it. Hoddle coming in and playing him out wide finished him off.

In the right team, Rebrov would’ve been an absolute world beater in my opinion.

For some reason last night a thought suddenly entered my head.

What happened to Zeki Fryers?

After all the hassle we went through to get him, he was utter shit.

Prime Rebrov partnered with Prime Berba or prime Kane would be a devastating duo imo.

He was well overrated and that was before he joined us.

Look at how many clubs he has had and he is at Swindon Town now.

Think we signed David Kerslake, a right back, from Swindon at the same time. He was shite as well.

Ramon Vega is Spursy in a nutshell. Gets sent off on his debut and had a terrible underwhelming time for us. Basically my spurs supporting life from early 90s until now.
