Don't think it was the worst half at all to be fair, but we lack a cutting edge. One of those games where we could play until tomorrow and still not greatly look like scoring.

I just don't see that hunger for goal and quality to match in our attack, something that I was really hopeful we'd address in the summer.

Frustrating.

Dealt well with their early pressure.
Then got to grips with it and but on some excellent pressure ourselves.

Unfortunately we switch off and allow them to gain control/spirit.

Since then we haven't been able to work and shots.

This is why we HAD to sign a winger/attacking midfielder for NOW.

Odobert is going to drift in and out.
Johnson won't do much against a compact defence who are focused on keeping it level.
Maddison will fade after 70mins as always.
Deki is doing a tireless job out there and will get tired.

Some nice play, pretty build up but we really still do lack a killer punch.

Terrible goal to give away.

I wish Ange would instruct them to go long when building from the back looks to high risk....especially away from home.

I mean it shouldnt be that hard ffs

For all the ball we’ve had, we dont really look like scoring.

And we look quite timid all over the pitch. Need to up the intensity.

We can't play this midfield in these sorts of games.

Someone needs to be a defensive midfielder.

And the fact Ange keeps making that mistake isn't good.

Sorry but Son is no LW in this system, also Maddison can go to the bench for all i care. He is supposed to be the midfielder that controls the game and all i see is a weak/slow player that lost the ball a few times today. Same problems as last year, but its basically the same team, so i dont know why expected better. Lets hope there are some changes at HT.

At least it's the best performance at St James in a few years. One lapse at the back costing us again though.
I assume you mean udogie doing a udogie and giving away a pointless free kick. The amount of times he bundles a player over when they are going nowhere fhcks me right off.

Maddison's rep has made sure most, if not all, contentious calls will go against him. I want to like him but he sure makes it difficult.

I think they look more solid defending than we do and that's the difference. We just look like we will switch off or give the ball away and they're in. They get everybody back and don't give many openings in the box.

Very soft goal conceded from a throwing undoes a good half from us. That being said, we really miss a striker in the box to get on the end of our crosses…

Don't think we are doing much with Sarr/Biss in midfield. Maddison is again creating very little at the #10. Would say we push Son up top, Kulu to the #10, bring on a wing option (probably Johnson on the right or Werner on the left) to complement Odobert.

Son
Odobert Kulu Johnson
Biss Maddison

We're not playing that bad, but creating very little and far too slow in attack.

Also think this match becomes far more difficult and more 11v11 when Tonali comes in for Longstaff, who is pretty useless.

Other option may be just a swap of Sarr and Bergvall. Sarr/Biss is too defensive if we're trying to get back into a game and running into a low block.
