We had two strikers and our best defender out in a game where by every metric, except goals scored, we were the better side.
And our last two visits to St James Park were absolute batterings so I'd argue things have improved.
I also looked at those metrics for each of those games:

Zero points
Zero points
Zero points

But hey, we have looked a bit better getting beaten in each of them.

Did we really miss many actual clear chances today. I can't remember them. We got near to creating some good openings but I think it was more about bad decision making than actual lack of a clinical finish.
I don’t mean to sound obtuse here but does it really matter? We had enough of the ball to get a goal, we looked completely out of ideas. Newcastle were very poor but they just managed to get into goal scoring posistions.

I don't know of many teams who can go away from home and score three goals to win a game.

I know Bournemouth and Liverpool did this!

But i think just two away wins since October (i believe) isn't just bad luck.

This is a fair point. Our away form has been abysmal. Beaten Villa, Sheffield Utd and Nottingham Forest away since October. That’s three away wins in almost a year.

I don’t know if it’s the mental side of things, playing against a crowd, or the lack of control while away from home, but clearly needs addressing.

Obviously never going to be popular hearing the truth on here but it's exactly how the club is regarded by others and by many of its own fans.
Fucking hell, hark at you, bringer of truth that you are?!

we're just so inefficient.

feels like it takes a monumental effort for us to score but feck all to concede, not a great combination.
I think if you look back at the goals we have conceded over the past season, the vast majority come from two, three maybe four passes from the opposition's half (dead ball situations taken out).

This should indicate to the most blinkered among us that our problem has little to do with if Richy or Dom are available to play.

You give quality players space and they will punish you irrespective of percentage of possession you have.

Just look at any of the goals we have conceded under Ange, few are goals of the season quality, just common sense use of the ball against an inflexable high line defence.

Werner looked completely anonymous when he came on when his job this season is literally to up the tempo as a sub.

Not sure there's much justification for him even being on the bench in the next game.

I was fuming when we re-signed Werner on loan and I got quite a few negative reactions but I stand by it.

To me it was an absolute waste of time and took up a valuable squad place we could have used to actually strengthen our team.

We could have Odobert and Moore as our back up LW’s (CAM too) to Son and instead of Werner we could have gone and got an actual quality attacker for RW.

Really stupid move, a waste of time and unfortunately sums up how we didn’t do enough in the window imo.

Our high line defence is still costing us 🙄
Totally agree. Our high line exposes each player individually and the defence as a whole. When there is a breakaway by the opposition, I almost watch through my fingers, waiting for the attack to be over. Same with corners. So much work to be done with our team before we realistically challenge for anything.

If we were battered by Newcastle today but somehow scraped a win, would that have been seen as progress?

I know the end result doesn't reflect it but I personally think the fact we outplayed Newcastle in their own ground with our best defender and both strikers missing was a massive plus and step forward, certainly compared to how we have been annihilated at their ground recently.

It's all ifs and buts but i believe if Solanke and VDV plays today we win. I get the frustrations but the reactions to this performance has astounded me, so over the top and as if we should be rolling up and winning this game without fail.

I don't think Werner was the reason we being doing shit.

Christ. A team like citeh converts most of them chances
It's hardly a surprise though.

We only signed Odobert as a winger (who is developing) and Werner who is incredibly toothless.

Liverpool and City sign genuine quality/clinical players

A very tough result to take, fuckin hate playing Toon. Encouraging how well we played but we gifted them 2 goals, need to cut that shit out, so frustrating.

Hopefully Solanke and VDV back for Arsenal.

I don't understand what some people think they're reading. There's been zero "hate".
Its the same when some players are being discussed and someone comes out with a similar sentence. I find it an annoyingly lazy thing to say.

It was an ejoyable game to watch. We pressed well and a made some very good goal scoring positions.
Porro, Maddison and Sarr had decent strikes from range and there were some very good crosses that went begging.
Newcastle got a bit lucky. Yep, they set up to counter but conceding so much possession and shots on goal really should have cost them. The first goal was really well finished by Barnes but on another day that goes wide or high or gets saved. As usual everyone switched off for a second as two as Maddison failed to stop Joelinton picking out a peach of a pass for their second.
Very harsh on us but there are definite signs of improvement. I'm excited to see what Bergvall and Gray will bring plus Solanke should be more of a threat from crosses.
Quick counter attacks are still a thorn in our side, especially without Big Micky. The other issue is Vicario and his lack of authority in the area from corners in particular. The team is evolving and certainly the play looks more choesive.

You know you could argue that when you look at the quality ange has at his disposal he is almost overperforming.

I get frustrations with the system but it’s almost comically predictable. Screw the manager in the transfer market then the fans turn on him and we start all this again.

I don't think Werner was the reason we being doing shit.

Not directly but as I explained us signing him prevented us going for an actual quality player for our first team.

It's hardly a surprise though.

I don’t think it’s knee jerk, as a spurs fan how many times do we accept a loss when we really need to stamp our intent for the league? We can never ever follow through when needed, it’s not Ange’s fault, Levy’s fault, even the team”s fault. We can never ever get a win when it’s required. I’m totally confused as to why we can’t follow through. It’s just so Dissappointing wen we played so well.

this team has certainly “followed through” on a number of occasions if you ask me.
