Maybe not the best thread but I didn't want to clog up Spurs chat...

I spotted some signage items from the old stadium coming up in an auction. It's stuff that used to be on display at the Bricklayers apparently. Only a few bits up for grabs and I imagine they will fetch a decent price, but anyone can register for this online auction so wanted to flag it up:

Hopefully that jumps straight to page 3 where the Spurs stuff is. I will be jealous of whoever gets the toilets sign!!

After watching Villa Park last night it really got me thinking. Even though the atmosphere at the new stadium is very good when it’s going. I still don’t think it’s as intimidating or boisterous as the classic old stadiums and got me thinking why. The rake is basically the same if not stepper the closeness to pitch. Even Villa Park has missing corners. Then realised it has to be seat space and the fact the old stadiums pack them in like sardines. I think visually and noise wise that’s what gives old stadium that unique feel. It really means that although we’ve done very well you will never quite capture that old stadium feel.

They couldn’t pack us in tighter in the south stand. I’d say the seats are easily as close together as in the old ground.

Huh ? There’s no way you can compare leg room to old stadium.

The south stand is the tightest at 48cm not sure how that compares with old stadium. Rest of stadium is definitely more legroom though. But seats are 15cm wider all over stadiums.

The south lower leg room is very tight especially if you have long legs! Up in the east upper there is loads of room, much more than where I used to sit in the west upper.

Presumably the south was designed with an eye on safe standing being introduced in the future (and also expectations that a lot of people will stand regardless in this part of the stadium).

I really think we need to rearrange the away section In the future. we give the away support far to many pitch side seats. Just give them a little section all the way up. Maybe it’s because of the tv angle but every game feels like an FA cup game really doesn’t feel very intimidating for the away team or officials at the moment.

It's the rules. Some clubs (e.g. Newcastle) are, for some reason, allowed to avoid the rules.

I’m not talking about legroom but more to do with the person sat next to you. It’s as tight as WHL. In the south stand it is anyway.

As for legroom, I have a post in front of me that holds the safe standing rails up and my knee knocks into that if I sit down. So it’s not exactly spacious. Maybe it’s different in other parts of the stadium

Went to my first game at the new stadium yesterday. Stunning. I was so impressed. It really captures the sound of the fans, it can get really loud, a shame that rarely happened yesterday though. Sat up right up In the north stand and man it was steep. Needed oxygen mask and a defibrillator. Fuck I'm unfit.

The only issues I had was placement of the coaches for home and away fans, they were both together and also meant walking down Northumberland amongst away fans. Which is generally ok for most fans, the Newcastle fans were good natured, a bit of banter etc, but for games like West Ham etc its going to be a problem. Saw a guy just down from the bill Nic with his head split open on a kerb out stone cold, and two groups of teenage home and away fans having a stand off. Always a few that ruin it for everyone.

Not sure where else to put this but in regards to our hard line approach on not standing did anyone see the Villa game on Friday night? No fucker was sat down in the stadium and I’m wondering if they will get threatened with losing their safety certificate or having sections of the stadium closed.

This was an issue also in the last few years at WHL. I was always surprised at the lack of police down that route. Asking for trouble.

Dunno what the rule is exactly, but all away fans at Newcastle are up in the Gods, none at pitch side.
For last two seasons clubs have to have some away fans at pitchside. Supposedly safety problems are stopping Newcastle doing it. No doubt Ashley just ignoring it.

Women know how to avoid the herd mentality and have worked out where the quieter bars are so they can get served quicker

I need to speak to them then so they can let me know. Service is agonisingly slow, and I don’t even go in the South Stand bars.
