They can't issue tickets for the Liverpool game until they've got the necessary certificates, the other events are "test events" so a "ticket" and nominal fee can be issued so you can gain the necessary accreditations.

There's a lot of fake accounts out there just trying to get a hysteria going. Again trying to get a negative atmosphere heading into the ground.

Completed not finished, as long as the green bit, the seats, dressing rooms and most of the public areas are complete and those that aren't are boarded off/made safe all the frilly stuff can be done after the match days.

My guess would be THFC would hope for the exterior to be boxed off before the first CL game at the latest, most of the frilly bits to be complete by the time the egg ball comes to town and even then there will areas pending and contractors coming and going for a while yet.
There will be changes to the landscaping and there will be stuff earmarked through the season that they may need to alter or tweak in the off season as the structure settles or things aren't quite working as planned on paper/CAD.
People panicking because there are holes in the side, a lot of which are plant rooms and will be eventually covered by the veil, it doesn't mean the sky is about to fall in.

Ideally I think the latest they'd want to put the green bit down would be a couple of days before the U23 game, they're not going to put it down until all the stuff needed to keep it alive is assembled and plumbed in and be sure nobody needs to walk/drive a ruddy great crane over it.

Some people get off on little drama I swear it, just calm your tits people.

The pessimist in me would very much like the Liverpool game to not be the first at the new stadium but I will be absolutely devastated if the champions league games get moved.

I agree.
The Rolling Stones crew need the best part of a week to build the stage, and the best part of a week to dismantle it all again.
I guess if the fixtures fall right with an international break, we could have a concert mid-season, but the big bands have schedules of their own - they are not necessarily going to go out of their way fit in with our precise window.

For concerts, we will be competing with Wembley and the Olympic stadium etc in the summer months. The retractable pitch doesn't add much advantage for these - Wembley can just relay the pitch if is beyond repair - not a big deal - they do it 4X a year anyway I believe.

Other events like boxing need less stage work, but because we have a permanent artificial pitch rather than bare concrete, all that will have to be carefully covered before seating can be put out. That will take a good 1-2 days. But, yes, we could just about fit events like that in amongst our busiest schedule. Are there many events like this that need a 60k stadium?

An NFL franchise, should it ever come to London - will generate more money at Wembley - that will be their preferred option. Wembley will need to ditch international fixtures though, so with the largest stadium in London, I guess we could pick up many of these events, but what has that to do with the retractable pitch?

I think the retractable pitch will start paying for itself when they set up a Euro NFL (again), but the main franchise would have to come over first to gee up interest, and obviously we'd have to wait until the war with europe had settled down a little. It is a very long term speculative investment.

How much does it cost to relay a pitch the size of Wembley? Has to be around a £1m. So thats £4m + they are wasting every season. How much does Wembley even earn from a concert? It can't be that much so relaying that pitch is a huge waste of money.

Couldn't agree more - the CL deadline is paramount.

First round is 18/19 Sept, straight after Liverpool.

We could put a request into UEFA to play away first (if we've not already) to be on the safe side - round 2 is 2/3 October.

The lack of communication from the club is pretty poor really.

Having said that - this is such a complex project, nothing really surprises me.

Is anyone really surprised that the club haven't responded yet? They never normally respond to stories in the press.

Really? At this stage it’s nothing more than a rumour.

Up til now I think they’ve been quite good.

Since when did anyone believe anything Neil Ashton and the Sun says FFS?!?!

He’s just shit stirring. It’s nothing we didn’t know already.

Do you remember how bad the Wembley pitch was? It was rutted and dangerous.
They never solved the problem, but now just regularly relay the pitch.
I thought it was a perfect surface last year.
They'll just make one of the resurfaces after all the summer events and before the charity shield.

And we do not know how our surface will like being locked away for much of the summer.
I dare say we too plan to relay the pitch every year and it will be more expensive for us as we can only use light machinery. Something that should take a few days will take us a couple of weeks.

Anyway, I don't think it is a million. Maybe £500k.

Another delay and no naming rights agreed yet...if its not ready for Liverpool, that'd be disappointing tbh.

My guess is the club does not really know if it will be ready yet - and in that case, there is no sense in responding, until they have a firm date on when it will be ready.

I think they have a timeline for critical path items - and the timeline is tight.

It would have been exceptionally poor planning, not to have a back-up plan in place, if they cannot get the safety certificates prior to the Liverpool match. Levy is many things, but I don't think he would have been willing to go without a safety net here.

We've waited long enough for the new stadium so a few more games won't matter in reality.

BUT, the problem is this lack of communication to the fans. They should be letting us know the same time as it hits the media. It's a lack of respect for us - oh the fans will just follow on, they've got no choice. I'm not going to the Fulham game at Wembley (family holiday commitments, but hush don't tell the club that), and I've seen what a low take up it is for this weekends game coming.

As it happens I think it's the club covering their arses, but we'll see I guess.
