It never fails to amaze me how many people only watch football when their team plays or, at a push, other games that have a direct effect on their team's chances, and don't give a toss about anything else. I even read some fans on here who admit to not even liking football much, they're just Spurs fans and nothing else.

I obviously support Spurs but I love football and I want to watch the historic moments. A stadium opening, be it Spurs, Brighton, Gillingham or Arsenal is a historic moment. A City v Cardiff match that doesn't decide anything because there are several matches remaining in the season isn't one of those moments.

Watching football to me is like watching friends, ill have it on in the background whilst I browse the net... I do love football but mainly because its something to have on whilst I do what I have to do...

Spurs on the other hand? I love watching spurs and will always watch spurs.

I do find it strange however that Sky are not showing it although im not surprised given that the more pertinent and important game is Man Shitty v Cardiff... having said that again however it is fucking Man Shitty against Cardiff - I mean if Cardiff get anything out of that then ill just well... I dont know...

Re the WHL Vs New Sponsor name discussion....has it occurred to anybody that we play GGTH at the end of every win or draw. And the song mentions WHL as our place in North London 3 times :nailbiting::nailbiting:

Pride of North London we're the kings of White Hart Lane
Repeat
Repeat

Are they going to want to stop that too ? o_O

To be clear I'm not saying that I don't want a lucrative stadium deal (subject to previous posts on ethics of sponsor(s)).

But this is specifically in response to the discussion on changing the station to TH to phase out use of WHL. Logically they might take that one step further with the song we play at every game before and usually after

So many tickets left for the U18 event. Reckon they'll invite members to buy tickets for guests like the members guest window for real matches or straight to gen sale?

I see your point, and I'd have agreed with you a few short years ago. But then I stopped playing.

Since then, the love of football has very much diminished. Where I used to live & breathe for the weekends, meeting up with the boys before our own games, exchanging banter about how the clubs we support are doing, or are going to do. That was what created the love for the game. But now it's faded.

I've found, if it's not Spurs, I'm really not at all interested. I'd rather come on here & see what people are saying about the games, rather than watch them myself. And I'll obviously watch MOTD.

But flip the coin to Tottenham & you'll see me nowhere near the match thread until the game has finished. Why? Well because Tottenham matters.

Well that & the fact that the match thread (Cockwomble Corner) is absolute fucking comedy gold after the game has finished.

I know how you feel. I'm 77 now, but when I was in the Army I played for my Regiment during the week and a german team at the weekend. I played for the Army in the Far East (Hong Kong) and I lived for it. Now I get out of breath just thinking about it. The social get togethers that we had were fantastic. I wouldn't have give it up for anything.

I must be weird but I'd imagine more neutral fans wanting to see if Palace can ruin our first game at NWHL than watch City go 5-0 up after 20 minutes against Cardiff. Arsenal obvs, Utd and Liverpool fans that are annoyed at how shit Cardiff are etc

As far as I'm concerned they can dump it. We don't sing 'Pride of North London we're the kings of White Hart Lane' or 'Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur' We sing 'Glory Glory Allelujia'. It's always sounded like a copy of the Manu rip-off to me.

If they go back to MacNamara's Band when the teams come out - or have a proper version of 'Glory Glory' - it'll be fine by me.

This is brilliant it might actually deserve its own thread. Photos of WHL from very first match in chronological order.

Thanks for that, great pictures.

My favourite versions of WHL are:
1) the 60’s, when it started to look like a big stadium. Add to that the team we had and the football we played, it must have been a fortress and quite intimidating for visiting teams and fans. Let’s get back to that with the new place!

2) When the HP jumbo screens went up in the 90’s. I was off school ill for a while, and my dad took me up there to see the stadium that pre-season. We bumped in to Sheringham and Anderton at the main office, and they got us on a tour inside the stadium. Magic.

I'll be front row of 525 for that game...
I'll be in my seat(s) in 343. I so hope I'm not disappointed/underwhelmed after all the build up. Especially as it's a 'downgrade' in position within the stadium in my eyes :(

Edit - drinks/food etc are not what I'm going to the football for.

It would be good to fill that single tier as much as possible. I really fancy the atmosphere to be great for these test games. The fans will surely want to test out the noise levels. I can only imagine what that would be like for the U18s. What an amazing experience to have at such a young age.
