Yes good news indeed.
I'm going to get pelters for this but i don't care its my opinion but i think he is very overated keeper and don't understand why everyone crawls up his arse to be honest. He's a good keeper yes and may become very good but not world class or great at the moment as most people seem to think of him.

Distribution needs improving and needs cut out silly errors.
And all i can think of him at this moment is him picking the ball out the net from so many hammerings last season

Yeah, he needs to get his head down and work hard. Then, if he's lucky, he might scrape into his national team. o_O

To be fair, he could improve his distribution, but nobody's perfect and everyone could improve on something.

Fantastic news! When soul-searching during my most depressed moments last season him and Eriksen was the only players I felt like I would be disappointed if they left this summer. A slight overreaction of course but still. Great, great news!

'Overated'. Do you mean, like, bulemic?

I like to think Daniel was browsing SC's Movie Photoshop thread last night, got a bit emotional and woke up in 'proactive' mode...

Fantastic news, wasn't expecting that.
Not a sniff from any of the ITKs.
Just the lift we needed, now for a left back (et al) and we'll be sorted. COYS

Although I share the general happiness here about this news, sadly, if our recent experiences should have taught us anything, its that a player signing a new contract means nothing more than a pay rise for them. If they want to leave in the future, they will, no matter how long their contract runs for.

Fantastic news. Wouldn't be surprised to see him as Captain. It may have been worked into his agreement. Seems like a calm, natural leader. Although, does anybody have any knowledge as to who Poch tends to pick as Captain? On the continent it's often the centre half.

Misplaced negativity.

It actually means various things that are positive and significant:

1. He is happy to stay at this moment in time and has confidence in the club.

2. His value is significantly increased.

3. He is definitely staying for at least one more season.

I dont disagree with any of that, however, the mood here seemed to be "Woopie, Hugo is here for the next 5 years!" I am just saying that's not necessarily true.

I don't think many people think he's here for the next five years...I know I certainly don't take his new deal as meaning that he'll be here for 5 years.

I take it as a formal statement of his confidence in the club, and am celebrating that he'll be here for the new season and is on board with Project Pochettino. It's also a huge weight off our shoulders that we no longer need to worry about losing him for a fee less than his true value if his does decide to move on.

After the debacle of last season, to get our most high profile player who's in the peak of his career to sign a 5 year deal is nothing short of a coup.
