I've said it on here in other threads but I don't like the character of the man. I don't like that he publically abused a female doctor for simply doing her job. i don't like that he felt the need to poke a Barcelona coach in the eye because he lost a match. I don't like his sterile, defensive, one-paced style of football. I don't like his misuse of young players or how he publically bullied Luke Shaw.

My only solace is that during his time out of the game he has reflected on his ways and we see a new improved version of the man. And hopefully a change in his dour philosophy on football. I cannot argue against the fact he is a serial winner and that gives me some cause for optimism but i'm unlike others who seem to abandon any morals they have to support the manager. If he is chatting shit or doing something wrong I will call it out. And if his past actions are anything to go by then this is very likely to happen.

Ultimately I want Tottenham Hotspur to do well so I will support the club/team but for now I cannot get behind Mourinho the character or his football philosophy. If his future actions show that he has changed his ways then my opinion may change but currently I remain skeptical.
In real life, or just on the internet?

Come one, that's a bit strong man.

When drawing up a shortlist of managers, as a group of friends we all thought Nagelsmann would be the obvious choice to follow in the footsteps of Pochettino - young, dynamic and has worked wonders at small teams. Allegri and Mourinho were the "safer" bets but in fact none guaranteed us anything.

We now have Mourinho - the manager Levy has been after for a considerable amount of time and yet, only after his reputation has been somewhat tarnished as was the case with AVB.

I'm glad we've acted like a "big club" - made a crucial, ruthless decision and brought in a manager with an unparalleled pedigree in the modern game. Whether he can adapt to the financial restrictions being Spurs manager is associated with is another thing.

Overall, I'm excited. Because watching us play Sheff Utd was so painful that I was considering putting most of my home tickets for the rest of the season on Ticket Exchange. But now I have a sense of renewed optimism - the unknown. I don't care at the moment about our "style of play" - I just want to watch us win a game.

I'm partially excited because I do think a change was needed, and as much as we should all love Poch for everything he achieved, it was clear something wasn't going right and it didn't look like he was capable of turning it around.

However we've appointed a manager who, whilst undeniably successful in past jobs, has achieved that success largely through spending an inordinate amount of money.

As a club we do not have a history of spending an inordinate amount of money.

For me these two things don't go hand in hand and that's what worries me greatly.

If Mourinho continues his normal approach, and Levy continues his, then I cannot see any situation where this is a success. But I suppose we'll have a better understanding of that come the end of January.

This is all true and yet, does appointing a manager like Mourinho not suggest a change in the way the club is looking to work? Before it was built a lot of us thought that it would be the stadium and its increased revenue that could be the difference maker in terms of how much investment can be made in the team.

Of course it could be that ENIC et al intend to pocket all that extra money and keep things as they are, but if that were the case then I'd have expected a very different managerial appointment - a Howe type. I don't believe that either Levy or Mourinho are stupid men, I believe they will both feel the same way about each other.

The only proof will be in the pudding, but I think there is good reason to hope things might have changed in terms of how we look to approach things now. I'm optimistic that this signals an intent to push on to the next level again.

We may see a new manager bounce on Saturday, but mostly I'd be looking for us to stop the rot, steady the ship and start the process of developing whatever new style we intend to adopt. It's going to be a fascinating game to watch, one which I'm no longer dreading.

Would love to be wrong, club and success first
I hear you. Wasn't a jab. Just an attempt at a little levity. All sides have valid points honestly. We're all strapped into this ride with no steering input.

One other point I think is worth making is in reference to this supposed need for Mourinho to spend millions.

At Porto, as is well known, he was successful on a budget. That success got him the Chelsea job, where there was money to spend. This then elevated him to a position where the biggest, and by association richest, clubs in Europe wanted him.

Now, if you win the lottery chances are your spending will increase. This doesn't mean that you necessarily need that money to be happy. In the same way it's possible that it has become a self fulfilling prophecy that he needs money to spend.

Time will tell, but it may be that Mourinho can work quite happily on a reduced budget.

I don't like the appointment at all, especially with how it all unraveled. But I hope he's successful

Excited. If Jose is as happy, healthy, refreshed and as motivated as he seems then it could be amazing.

Apart from the Galacticos at Madrid, this is probably the best squad (notwithstanding current form) that he has inherited. Most of them just need to hear a new voice, have some fresh ideas put in front of them and ultimately have someone who will make them believe they are the best players in the world again.

Am also excited about his tactical nous not only in setting teams up for specific games but also his ability to change things in game.

Which is why I cannot categorically say that I'm either excited or disappointed.

If this appointment is backed up by the financing that Jose has pretty much proved he needs to succeed then it could, and perhaps should, be a massive step forward.

But for me at the moment that's a very big if.

I see the concern for this. But for now I will choose to think that they have discussed it and are on the same page. Mourinho will also know that with the smaller budget, he won't be expected to win the league.

For a manager that's apparently getting £15m a year, I'd be very surprised if his remit wasn't to win the league.

That's both exciting and concerning, because if Levy doesn't back him with money, we've got a very expensive and explosive problem on our hands.

I'm hopeful that he can turn us into a club that teams are scared to play against again, like we had during the final season at WHL, where teams were scared to come and try and take us on.

Now teams coming to us and dominate the game and look better than us. This needs to stop. First step is finding a defence, then build on that. I think he can do a good job this season and get us back to a more respectable league position.

I do worry that him and Levys honeymoon period won't last long and it will all blow up sooner rather than later. Still, guess we just enjoy the ride whilst we can.

Nervous anticipation!

I love the fact that we have gone and got the best we could get, given the current market of managers. I have always felt that this squad under a manager that tactically knows his stuff could be so much better than it was under Poch. That's not a slight on Poch or what he achieved here, but it became clear to me that once the counter-press and high-intensity play was no longer a viable option, Poch didn't have an answer for a solution.

Obviously we all know Jose's rep - his record speaks for itself, but this really needs a different Jose and different Levy. They both have to do things they haven't done before. One has to spend and the other has to maintain harmony amongst the club. If both of these are achievable then I honestly think we have the potential to go to the next level above anything Poch could have given us before.

Irrespective though of what we think of Levy and how he handled the Poch sacking (I personally agree wholeheartedly with what Levy has done), we as fans need to be completely behind the Manager and club, we need to forget about calling Poch's name at games - sentiment has no place at the stadium right now. We need to let Jose do what he has to do if that is to the benefit of the club.

Loved Mauricio
Not keen on Jose.
But recent results did for Mauricio
and results will be the only yardstick
by which to judge Jose.

Doubt he will better Pochettino's record.
Hope he succeeds obviously.
