At least a quiet apology is due to Dier....Mourhino trying to bumsuck his way back into the team again
At least reading a bit of the article not just the headline is needed before voicing an opinion. JM said he is apologising publicly after he had done it face to face in the changing room.

Hi 'sebo-sek':
Much as I do see what you are saying, let me ask you this: Do you thjnk that the idea of 'this will do me a lot of good to further apologise....especially as Erik is a valued member of the squad' never entered Mourhino's head?

Mourinho knows he’s under the microscope just as much as every player. He made a tough call but straight away crushed any negative story that could emanate from doing so. He wants people to believe he has changed and this was a good chance to show that he wouldn’t single out players for criticism as he did at United. It was an early necessary tactical change in response to the start the opposition made. He knows it, Dier knows it, now everyone else does too. He has no control over people who can’t get their heads around that so they’re not worth worrying about.

Personally I think apologising for pulling Dier off was wrong and sets a dangerous precedent. Dier was playing bad and Mourinho was fully justified in pulling him off. It would have been different if he had taken off the wrong player. What is going to happen the next time when either Dier or another needs to be subbed early because of poor performance?

I disagree. He made a tough call so he should stand by it. I think he loses credibility by apologising. People who are going to write a negative story about the sub will do so whether he apologises or not.

I dont think he loses credibility.
Agree they'll write shite though if they choose to. Which they will sooner or later. They'll just wind him up, wave a red rag at the Mourinho bull and watch him go mental

He is standing by the decision, the result backs him up. Dier was just collateral damage rather than the focus of the decision. Mourinho doesn’t need to be doing damage of any sort right now, he’s after hearts and minds, hence the apology.

Yeah, what IS going to happen?
I think this is nit-picking on steroids. It is a curious situation to pull a player off after 29 minutes, so JM didn't want any bad blood. Plain and simple. It doesn't make him weak, quite the opposite in this day and age.
