I don't think for a second that the club actually wanted them to fail. I meant that if they did want them to fail, they couldn't have gone about it in a better way. Just highlights how poorly they've been handled. I know Soldado is getting (and missing) good chances now, but I'm pretty sure his confidence has been torn to pieces by being made to played completely incorrectly by AVB for such a long time.

You see i don't quite get this argument, whilst i see your point in that AVB certainly didn't play to Soldados strengths surely as an International £26 million footballer you could adapt your game to a point where you could at least have some success. Top players do, take Giggs for example, he's played just about everywhere at some point in his career. Its a game of football for goodness sake no matter what position you're asked to play, its not like AVB asked him to become the team physio or anything.

I voted for Soldado. I was disappointed the day we bought him and I never thought that he would work out in England. However, the level of his failures this season have shocked even me. I had very low expectations from the start, and somehow, someway, Soldado has managed to limbo beneath them.

Why did you think this?

I just don't think the system or style of play AVB wanted suited Soldado at all. It would have been infinitely more suited to Adebayor. Even if we'd spent £40m on Soldado, it's not going to make him better at hold-up play or creating his own chances.

His value was based on his abilities as a finisher when chances are being created in the box, yet under AVB he just seemed to be cast adrift on his own, with Townsend and Siggy behind him firing efforts over the bar from 30 yards.

Some players like Giggs could play almost anywhere because of the type of players they are. For me, Soldado is a very specific type of forward, and should be used in that role.

Can you send this to Tim Sherwood ASAP. If you download FMRTE you could even change his nationality to English and his birth place St Albans.

Funny, isn't it? AVB set up a style of play to suit a player we already had, but he refused to play. Bizarre turn of events.

I also subscribe to the notion that Soldado's lack of confidence and poor form is a by-product of his mis-management under AVB, and I think it's still continuing under Tim. When Tim started he played Soldado and Ade together. Soldado clearly benefitted in the help up top and they worked really well together. He's now decided to drop Soldado and go with 1 up top in Adebayor. It's decent enough but because of Ade's nature to come deep for the ball we still lack someone up top in the danger area. We should try playing them together again.

My pick is Soldado. Every single game I see him make excellent runs and link-ups but every scoring chance he gets he just smashes the ball wide. Against Norwich when Soldado had that excellent chance from the right side of the penalty area and blasted it wide I just stood up and walked away from the TV, I feel so bad for him.

Why did you think this?

He isn't strong or quick enough, especially for a penalty box player. The penalty box in the epl is way more physical and combative than he's used. You couldnt get away with half of the shit that goes on in the penalty box in england in spain.

Plus a pure finisher was never what our team needed. We need a presence up front.

Gareth Bale; I'm staying because I love AVB.

AVB; I started the.... Er... project, so I'll... Er... finish.

Levy's medium; you're normally tight, but I've got a lucky feeling about you and the number 7.

Chas n Dave; it's lucky for Spurs when the year ends in 1.

I'll rate them all in terms of my feels:

Younes Kabouls attempts to stay fit for two games in a row - if he was back playing, we could get Dawson off this list, 7/10 :(

Roberto Soldados attempts to take his chances - this is a bit of a sad story, especially when you consider his wife's miscarriage as well. I JUST WANT ONE TO GO IN FOR HIM! 9/10

Andros Townsend attempts to be Gareth Bale - just irritating, 2/10 :bored:

Michael Dawsons attempts to defend - he's the guy that keeps me off the edge of my seat; always a top laugh when he's playing, -3/10 :hilarious:

Danny Rose to be our only LB - this is quite stupifying, 3/10 :shifty:

The Erik Lamela story, including a missed pen against Hull - looks shy, can't get a game, gets injured, misses penalties, young player, record signing... does anything go right for this boy? poor kid... 9/10 :sorry:

Aaron Lennon, the guaranteed starter - i don't mind this that much tbf, as other teams seem to think he's good for some reason, 2/10 o_O

Paulinhos distance shooting - poor boy thinks he's Lampard or something, i almost start crying every time i see him in space 25 yards out, 5/10

Jermain Defoe, he is offside - he was born that way, so I'm not one to judge, 1/10 :dead:

tl;dr, Soldado's and Lamela's voyage to England has been the most depressing story this season, of two European talents we've managed to ruin.

Doesn't mean I don't have hope for everything to get better though! (y)

I see. I'd never seen him play and for some reason I thought he was more physically imposing.

I agree with what you're saying in that second paragraph. I hope we can move him on in the summer.

How the fuck was he shit for you in FM? He is pretty much a cheat player, he scores 20+ goals a season even when he is managed by the computer!

I think it might have been the "dwells on the ball" move he has, never managed to get rid of it unfortunately.
