The only thing that concerns me though, is the talk of this other guy Stambouli, who I know completely nothing about. Poch must clearly be unhappy with our midfield and think it lacks something or else he'd work with what he's got, as you said. I always thought that the only reason we were after Schneiderlin is because he wants one of his tried and trusted players in. I assumed that if we were unsuccessful we'd just leave it, keep Sandro or whoever it is that would've made way for MS, and try to get MS in a later window. The talk of getting in Stambouli makes me wonder if Poch has given up on MS and sees this guy as being a perfect replacement with qualities that will match Schneiderlin's.

I havn't see this guy at all so I have no idea if he's in to partner Capoue and compete with the others or he's into cover Capoue's role.

Will have to wait to see what unfolds in the coming weeks before we can pass judgement.

Sounds like he's got a very good all round game so he does sound similar in that sense to MS.

If that's the case and he works out perhaps we end our interest in MS. But if he doesn't, perhaps we reignite our interest. Or maybe we still go for MS regardless and its others who we decide to move on.

Just have to wait and see.

Stambouli in now, Sandro out and then maybe MS in for Dembele perhaps? Only speculation but I'm not sure how much game time Dembele will get. I think Poch has him down as 3rd choice right now and he may not be happy with that.

I can't believe we have 317 pages on Morgan Schneiderlin, and he is still at Southampton with more goals than Soldado :banghead:. Can we just move on and accept he is not gonna be Poch's jewel in our Midfield??

Just Christ is this thread going to top 400 pages with little to no hope of MS signing!

Maybe Bentaleb will get a Loan ? Hes young, he hasn't cost us anything, low wsges, maybe we will let him go out for a full season of game time. Can't see Holtby, Dembele, and Sandro who we all paid for, and on a lot more wages sitting on the bench,

Maybe last season but now I think Bentaleb deserves his place and is very useful to the team

Shame, him and Capoue would have been immense. But I'm not to concerned about missing out, we have plenty of options in midfield and £27m is just too much for my liking. As I said in the ITK thread last night, Schneiderlin was know where near a £20m player before Poch got hold of him so lets see if he can work his magic with this Stombouli kid who by all accounts is very similar in style. Like Modric and Suarez, Schneiderlin will be off in a year and who's to say we won't go back in for him.

Also, I think people are to overly concerned with the notion that Poch will be pissed because we failed to land his number one target and are scarred by the AVB/Moutinho saga. If the ITK is to be believed, values were agreed with Poch and the committee and Levy went over and beyond that value to try and land Schneiderlin. I'm sure Poch will appreciate the effort and unlike AVB he seems like a manager who understands our constraints and is working with us rather than throwing his toys out the pram, hence the Fazio and Stombouli signings.

TBH, it's been a strange window, whilst I'm disappointed to miss out on MS and MM, I think we have acted prudently in moving on and securing promising alternatives that fit the managers philosophy. I get the impression that everyone is singing from the same hymm sheet which bodes well for the future.

Probably but that's a lot of money sitting on the bench. That's now 7 CMs vying for two spots.

Agreed mate but by the sounds of things at least one of Sandro and/or Holtby will be moving on in the next couple of days, which will undoubtedly lighten the wage bill somewhat. I take your point, but also consider that if you're including Paulinho in your 7, I think he will be competing for one of the more attacking positions (as was used on Thursday in fact). Like I say though, for me Bentaleb has played his way into the team and I am happy to have him and Capoue as our stating 2 when both are fit.

If he can consistently add goals to his game, 10 a season say. He really is a complete midfielder. How some people wouldn't value much over 15 mill on here is unfathomable to me. Really wished we'd have forced this one through and paid a bit over the odds, something I don't like to advocate generally
@pjspur wondering what you think is 'wtf' worthy in this post? Or why you don't agree?

Which I can't understand and why I still think the squad is unbalanced.

We are overloaded in certain areas, but injuries to Ade or Eriksen will leave us in the shit.

No worries. Was just curious because I feel that many people completely underestimate the qualities of his all round game.
Nope, just fat thumbs :(. I am still clinging on to a faint hope he will come - excellent player. As for the rating, sorry about that. I must try scrolling with my left hand, I hear it feels like someone else is doing it for you!

Bringing in Welbeck (or similar player) will solve the Ade injured issue, but I have the same concerns about an injury to Eriksen if Holtby is sold.
